Genre tag... disappeared
Hi Simon,
today, in the morning, I moved some of my albums from a folder to another on my NAS. After the rescan, well, non more Genre info for these anymore... And this happens, too, for new albums or modified albums during the last week. But I can still see the Genre with untouched albums. I checked this with all my controller apps: . JPLAY native engine . JPLAY by Minimiserver folder . Foobar2000 (with Windows 10 or IOS 26.x) . Linn (both under Android or IOS) . MConnect. . Volumio No errors found in the minimserver.log. Pretty sure everything worked fine a week ago (doing some music maintenance on saturday mornig). Thank you for your help |

RE: Genre tag... disappeared
I don't know what could cause this. Did you make any changes to the files when you moved them? Do you see the moved files indexed with other tags?

RE: Genre tag... disappeared
Simon, this happens to untouched very old files, too.
BTW, having changed the contentDir to a very small folder to do some test, guess now I've lost the genre tags to all of my library. BTW#2, the minimServer navigation by folder/genre, still works fine. But I can't see the genre with any other app. Thank you |

RE: Genre tag... disappeared
... well, rescanning ended and I've been lucky, since I didn't lost the genre tag for the untouched files.
- So here is what I'm talking about. Untouched track, in the original place: here is what I see on JPLAY (by folder navigation) here the track was just copied to a new folder: and... no more Genre |

RE: Genre tag... disappeared
This sounds like a JPLAY issue. After copying files, you need to do a MinimServer rescan and reload the library into JPLAY.

RE: Genre tag... disappeared
Simon, I did those.
I did the JPLAY "Sync Data" (complete DATA rescan), too, even if I mostly use the MinimServer's folder navigation, with JPLAY. I do noticed, too, that some app (Linn IOS or Android, Eversolo IOS or Android, p.e.) don't show any Genre value for the olders nor the copied tracks. To double check the issue I activated the embedded Foobar200's "UPNP Media Server". Using the very same album, all the apps show correctly the Genre tag, including JPLAY. |

The only way to see whether the genre is correct in MinimServer is by using a control app such as Linn IOS. Please post step-by-step instructions to reproduce the problem using only MinimServer and Linn IOS. |

Using:
. QNAP TS-431X . minimServer 269 . iPhone 11 IOS 26.2.1 . Linn IOS 4.8.9.1 Pics, step by step: navigation by folder, all genres showed: ... and no Genre info: I expected to see: pic above, using . Fujitsu Notebook + Windows 10 . Foobar2000 + UPNP Media Server . iPhone 11 IOS 26.2.1 . Linn IOS 4.8.9.1 |

RE: Genre tag... disappeared
Thanks for this. MinimServer includes the file location in the track URI. If the control point is caching genre information by track URI, moving the track somewhere else would change the track URI and could cause the control point to be unable to find genre information for the track in its cache, even after a rescan.
You could verify this by copying the track back to its previous location and doing a rescan. If this causes the genre information to reappear, it confirms the above explanation. Other UPnP servers don't put the file location in the track URI. This would explain why moving the file location doesn't cause this problem with other UPnP servers. Does the control point have some way to force a reload of its cache? If this fixes the problem, it is further confirmation of why this is happening. |

RE: Genre tag... disappeared
Simon, the "Missing Genre" happens with the new files, too.
I'm pretty sure the last week (I mean last saturday) the issue wasn't there. Anyway, the very last test I can do is removing my minimServer instance from my JPLAY, deleting all the data, and reattaching again. Let you know later (or tomorrow in the morning). Thank you and have a good night. |
