Replay gain
Me again, sorry.
I've just applied replaygain tags to all tracks, 100% FLAC, in my library, specifically: REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_GAIN, REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_PEAK, REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_GAIN, REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_PEAK. My files are on a Synology NAS, also running Minimserver 2.2 on there. In Minimserver -> Minimstreamer->Properties I have stream.converter = 'ffmpeg' and stream.options = 'convOut=-af volume=replaygain=track:replaygain_noclip=0'. I've played a few tracks from different albums and it appears the volume is NOT being 'levelled'. What I'd like to acheive/happen is all tracks sound the same volume - including any playlists. I've not restarted minimserver on the NAS. I have looked around at previous forum posts and admit to been thrown a bit by talk of transcoding etc. What am I doing wrong please. |

RE: Replay gain
What is your stream.transcode setting?

RE: Replay gain
This is why you are not getting replay gain processing. You need to put something in stream.transcode to make MinimStreamer use ffmpeg to process the audio stream and apply replay gain and other audio filters. I suggest you try this:
flac:wav; or this: flac:wav24; Both these settings enable ffmpeg for audio processing. The wav24 setting also pads each audio sample to 24 bits if the input stream has a lower bit depth. With some renderers, this can improve sound quality. Make sure you include the semicolon at the end. |

RE: Replay gain
Next question if I may:
I have stream.options set to 'convOut=-af volume=replaygain=track:replaygain_noclip=0'. Works a treat for playlists. What I've discovered is that when playing an album (e.g. Dark Side Of The Moon) the volume appears to alter between tracks, I noticed it most between Speak To Me and Breathe - the transition is noticeable. The respective RG Track gain tags are +6.82db and -3.02db. I deleted the stream.options and played the tracks again - sounded as it should. Question is, can I have the best of both worlds, i.e. playlists and random tracks play the same volume, AND albums play as they should when I play an album? |

RE: Replay gain
Each track file should contain tags for both track gain and album gain settings. To use the album gain settings instead of the track gain settings, you can use the convOut setting 'convOut=-af volume=replaygain=album'. This should play the album's tracks at the correct level relative to other tracks of the same album.
To play tracks with track gain settings and play an album with album gain settings, you need to change the convOut setting manually when you change from playing tracks to playing an album or vice versa. MinimStreamer cannot do this automatically because the UPnP protocol doesn't allow MinimStreamer to know whether an audio file is being played as an individual track or as part of an album. You can change the convOut setting from the MinimServer/MinimStreamer properties page. Alternatively and more conveniently, you can create profiles for track gain and album gain and select the appropriate profile from the Profiles tab of the MinimServer configuration web page. With either of these methods, you don't need to restart MinimServer after making the change because the new setting is applied immediately. |

RE: Replay gain
Thank you Simon, created two profiles, seems easy enough to switch.
