Minimserver 2.1-2.2 docker container failed to start on DSM 7.2

I have been doing some tests to try to create an image file that is specially enabled to produce debug output. This would allow the user to create a container from this debug image in Synology Container Manager without needing to use any docker commands or special settings, then run this container in Synology Container Manager.

My results so far show that Container Manager has different rules for container settings than the equivalent docker commands. This means that in some cases an image that works when using docker commands does not work when using Container Manager, as you have also found.

I am continuing to try different approaches with the goal of producing a minimworld/minimserver:2.2-debug image that can be used "as is" in Container Manager with no special settings from the user. I will post back here when I have some news.

In the interim, you might see a minimworld/minimserver:2.2-debug image on Docker Hub. Don't try to use this image as I am replacing it with different experimental versions. When I have something that works correctly, I will post here.

My latest version of the debug image appears to be working as expected. To run it, do the following:

1) In Container Manager, use Registry to download the image minimworld/minimserver:2.2-debug
2) In Container Manager, select Image, then select Run for the downloaded 2.2-debug image
3) Configure the usual settings for mapped folders and the host network
4) Start the container

If the container fails to start, inspect its contents. The following files in the /opt/minimserver/data directory should provide useful debug information:

startd.xtrace - execution trace for the startd script (useful if MinimServer did not start)
minimserver.log, minimserver-out.log - log files written by MinimServer (useful if MinimServer did start)

I will be very interested to hear whether this debug image is able to start and run correctly in Container Manager on DSM 7.2.2.

Thanks very much for confirming this.

I will now build a test image intended for normal use. It will be based on the debug image but without enabling debugging. The significant changes in the debug image are using the CMD instruction instead of ENTRYPOINT to run the image and using the shell form of this instruction instead of the exec form. I will post back here when the test image is available.

The image minimworld/minimserver:2.2-test is now available on Docker Hub. It is working for me on DSM 7.2.1 and VDSM 7.2.2.

Please try this image and confirm whether it works for you on DSM 7.2.2. If you are able to run it without problems, I will rebuild all the 2.2 images to use these new startup settings.

I am about to go away for a week, so I will replace the images when I return in case there are any problems.
