RE: Unable to open Minimwatch after upgrade to Mac OS Sequoia
Reading your post carefully, I wonder if you are doing something different from what I am doing in my testing. I am doing the following.
1) Start MinimWatch from the Applications folder 2) MinimWatch is running correctly with no message about local network access 3) Shut down the machine 4) Restart the machine. MinimWatch is not running. 5) Start MinimWatch from the Applications folder 6) MinimWatch is running correctly with no message about local network access I have also tried exiting MinimWatch between steps 2 and 3. This makes no difference. Are you doing the same as this? |

RE: Unable to open Minimwatch after upgrade to Mac OS Sequoia
The first time I tried this I got the usual error message at step 5, however I noted MinimWatch was already running. I then remembered that I had put MinimWatch in the list of login items to speed things up, or so I thought.
Once I removed MinimWatch from the Login items all the steps worked fine with no error message. Thanks for persevering with this. It will be no real hardship to manually start MinimWatch when I start using MinimServer. RE: Unable to open Minimwatch after upgrade to Mac OS Sequoia
Thanks very much for this. It is a step forward but there still appears to be a difference between your setup and mine. I have added MinimWatch to Login Items and I am not seeing the problem when I restart macOS.
I have tried it with shutdown and restart, just restart, password to login on restart, automatic login with no password on restart, MinimServer in login items as well as MinimWatch, just MinimWatch in login items without MinimServer and every combination is working for me. What exactly are you doing when it doesn't work? Please provide as much step-by-step detail as possible. |

RE: Unable to open Minimwatch after upgrade to Mac OS Sequoia
That is a very comprehensive set of trials you have done!
It may well be some slightly different step I've made but I guess it might be something in my setup of the new iMac perhaps, or its interaction with the NAS. I have noticed that there are far more security measures than I had with OS Mojave etc I'll try to be more detailed on what did when I got the error message. To check, the Versions I'm using are:
Referring to your post 41, and the penultimate para, how do you shutdown MinimWatch? You say 'tried exiting'. I have been exiting MinimWatch using the last item on the dropdown menu from the NAS MinimServer icon. More to follow........ RE: Unable to open Minimwatch after upgrade to Mac OS Sequoia
OK, all rather obvious really when I thought about it more carefully.
I had MinimServer alone in Login items when I reported the errors in earlier posts. Of course this Login only controls the startup of the iMac instance of MinimServer as the NAS instance is independent of the iMac; it is controlled by the NAS App which keeps it running independently of the iMac. Today I removed MinimServer from the login items and restarted the machine. No problem (step 4) so I started MinimWatch from the Applications folder(step 5) and a clear Minim icon for the NAS instance appeared with no error message. I then started MinimServer from the applications folder and another clear icon for the iMac instance appeared with no error message. As I nearly always use the NAS instance of MinimServer, this setup is probably sufficient. So there no real need for me to do more, but I will explore further. .... RE: Unable to open Minimwatch after upgrade to Mac OS Sequoia
I wondered whether the order of the Login items mattered i.e. would the order determine which was opened first - could this account for the errors? I found that whichever I added first to the logon items - Server or Watch - the result was the same: Server was always listed first then Watch.
I conclude that most convenient for me is to include both Server and Watch in the startup items. Slightly worrying, as I vaguely remember being here before and getting errors, however my investigations reproduce what you reported in Post #43, so my problem is solved. We will see...... Thanks again for your help Simon. RE: Unable to open Minimwatch after upgrade to Mac OS Sequoia
Thanks for trying all these combinations. To exit MinimServer and/or MinimWatch, I either select Exit from the dropdown menu or shut down the machine. There shouldn't be any difference between these but this might be a point for future investigation if needed.
If the problem comes back, please post the exact sequence of steps that makes it happen. |
