MinimServer update 259

MinimServer update 259 has been released. This update should solve a problem reported by some users that causes various symptoms including the following:

• A "Please wait..." message (possibly replicated many times) when starting or using MinimServer
• An error message "Unexpected license file format" when starting or using MinimServer
• An error message "wsidchk error 3" when starting or using MinimServer
• An error message "Integrity check value missing" when installing a package or update
  

This problem is associated with using a VPN and appears to affect a small number of users. It is caused by a firewall installed by the hosting provider for the MinimServer network license server and download server that in some cases can incorrectly block network communication betweeen MinimServer and the license and download network servers.

There are major internal changes in update 259 to work around this problem. Because of the possibility that these changes might cause problems for some users, update 259 is not installed automatically at present. It can be installed manually from the MinimServer configuration web page or from the MinimServer or MinimWatch taskbar icon using the About dialog (Show updates) or the Properties dialog (Packages tab).

If you are unable to install update 259 because of an "integrity check value missing" error message, this is a symptom of the firewall problem that is fixed in update 259. The solution is to disable your VPN, then install update 259 and then re-enable your VPN.

As no problems have been found in initial testing, MinimServer update 259 is now enabled for automatic installation when you install or restart MinimServer 2.2.

There is a related change in MinimWatch update 118, released today. This is enabled for automatic update. If you use MinimWatch, you should update to MinimWatch update 118 as well as updating to MinimServer update 259.
