MinimServer on Linux openSUSE Tumbleweed: Tray Icon has NO right-click pop-up actions
I have been running MinimServer happily for almost a year on my Windows 10 machine. Now, I want to run it on my Linux machine. Installation, first run with basic settings did run fine; and MinimServer is now running and offering my audio files to my network. But there is the issue mentioned in the thread subject here.
Specifics of my Linux system: openSUSE Tumbleweed, version 20250108 (cf. first attached screenshot) Linux Kernel: 6.12.8 (Intel 64-bit) Graphical desktop: Plasma, with the following versions: KDE Plasma: 6.2.5 KDE Frameworks: 6.9.0 QT: 6.8.1 JAVA version: OpenJDK 21 Runtime Environment, version 21.0.5.0-1.1 (cf. second screenshot) MinimServer specifics: Desktop integration enabled Autostart used with both y and n I tried several ways of starting MinimServer, from the system starter and as a daemon. However, I don't get the right-click pop-up actions from the MinimServer tray icon, just nothing, and just no way I can figure out myself to get them. All that shows up when hovering over the tray icon is the message banner "JavaEmbeddedFrame". Cf. the first attached screenshot. The MinimServer log file is also attached. I suppose this might be more of an operating system question ... Any help is gratefully appreciated. minimserver.log (Size: 1.44 KB / Downloads: 3)

RE: MinimServer on Linux openSUSE Tumbleweed
The tray icon can be problematical on some versions of Linux. I will install OpenSUSE and try to find out what is causing the problem.

RE: MinimServer on Linux openSUSE Tumbleweed: Tray Icon has NO right-click pop-up actions
Thanks a lot in advance.
I tried to find hints at what is happening. The KDE Plasma Desktop Version 6 comes up, as tray icons behaved in many faulty ways after the big version 5->6 change. Most bug reports concerned Plasma‘s own widgets / tray icons. Most of those bugs have been fixed already. But maybe there is some fallout surviving for third-party / Java apps and their tray icons / actions … ? Please keep investigating. Thanks! |

RE: MinimServer on Linux openSUSE Tumbleweed
I am seeing the same as you. I found some very old bug reports about this:
368328 362941 Unfortunately this old bug still seems to be there. Do you need to use KDE Plasma? The tray icon is working with GNOME on other distros and I would expect it to work with GNOME on openSUSE. Alternatively you could use either MinimWatch running on Windows or the MinimServer configuration web page to manage the openSUSE instance of MinimServer. |

RE: MinimServer on Linux openSUSE Tumbleweed: Tray Icon has NO right-click pop-up actions
Thank you for your efforts and time to verify this KDE Plasma bug.
Luckily, my needs are covered, a.o. by having MinimServer on my Windows machine. I am currently checking out changes to my setup, mainly in order to reduce network traffic. I might give Fedora with GNOME a try, since I am also looking into HQPlayer (which is not available for openSUSE). But it‘s unfortunate at the same time, since KDE Plasma is a very nice desktop, but is infamous for not resolving some long-standing bugs. Regarding the alternatives you mentioned, I‘d like to ask a question. Yes, I can use the MinimServer web configuration page. That‘s a nice thing to have; I checked I can access it from JPLAY on my iPhone. The only unevenness with that is that the config page doesn‘t scale appropriately to the iPhone (14 Pro Max) screen; I have to keep scrolling horizontally. Is there anything you could do about that? Thank you so much for your help - fast and precise. |

RE: MinimServer on Linux openSUSE Tumbleweed
I have a test build that should fix the iPhone scaling issue. I have sent you a PM with details of how to install this on openSUSE.

RE: MinimServer on Linux openSUSE Tumbleweed: Tray Icon has NO right-click pop-up actions
Two updates for everybody concerned:
I will try the developmental version of MinimServer that fixes the iPhone scaling issue for the configuration page on Monday, Jan 20. I have submitted a bug report to KDE which reports - actually it‘s more like a bump - on the tray icon bug in the KDE Plasma Desktop for Linux: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=498824 That report provides a little overview of the history and current situation. Thanks, Simon! |

RE: MinimServer on Linux openSUSE Tumbleweed
Scaling the configuration web page to fit the screen on mobile devices is now supported in MinimServer update 257. The scaling adjusts automatically when the vertical or horizontal orientation of the mobile device changes.
