RE: Minim stream being throttled on QNAP NAS ?
Thanks for your time and effort over this, simbun, much appreciated

(02-12-2024 15:48)simbun Wrote: There's an additional component called BubbleUPnP Server that can be used to proxy your Sonos speakers so that the playback queue is held on BubbleUPnP Server rather than in the BubbleUPnP app on your phone.... Earlier, I said I should make enquiries about BubbleUpnP settings in the ‘Bubble forum’ – but I’m looking for other info too, particularly about multiple Bubble controllers accessing the same NAS music library – which doesn’t seem to be common in the Bubble community. I have tried looking at the bubbleupnpserver2 page, the XDA thread and the Google groups, But despite wading through posts back to 2020, I’m not seeing what I seek – though I can see lots of posts from simbun ;-) So I’m being cheeky and asking here before launching into one of the three ways above. If there is an explicit guide to the points below that I’ve missed, please advise. I have Bubble uPnP on 3 android phones (family control) and 2-4 NexusII tablets (old versions, fixed point control) – with full licence but only 3 Google accounts - but no BubbleuPnP server on the NAS. To prevent potential chaos when resetting Sonos group ‘lead units’, this thread has highlighted the need to ensure all the android apps all have the same Renderer settings for all the Sonos devices – so that could be a chunk of work to start with. If I put BubbleuPnP Server on the QNAP NAS, can it be set to act as a ‘Master’ Bubble, with all the tablet/phone Bubbles being ‘slaves’ ? ie the mobile devices tell the NAS Bubble server what is wanted, but the NAS version does all the actual work, communicating what it has done back to all the slaves ? If so, would it mean I’d only need to set up Renderer settings on the NAS version and inconsistencies in the mobile renderer settings would become irrelevant ? Another issue we saw some time ago was when one phone had set up a play scenario, the display on another phone still thought the last thing it set up was still valid, when it wasn’t – For example, one track was playing because I’d just asked for it, but the last one Carol had set up still showed as current on her phone. If the NAS Bubble server updates to all the slaves what it has done, all the 5-7 mobile units will correctly display what is being played. Could putting BubbleuPnP Server on the NAS achieve this ? |

Once you've chosen a renderer BubbleUPnP simply tells it what to play and it's then down to Sonos to handle all the stereo/multiroom synchronisation. For each of the renderers you need to:
The best thing to do at this point is hide the non-OpenHome renderers in all of the BubbleUPnP app installs (More > Settings > Configure devices visibility) so there's no confusion. If some units are always paired/multiroom it's probably best to remove those slave OpenHome renderers at this stage too - or even better don't create them in BubbleUPnP Server in the first instance. As such, if you select that renderer on another device it will pull the queue from BubbleUPnP Server and you'll be able to manage the queue from both. None of this changes the fact that you still need to play to the master Sonos renderer for playback to work correctly. Hope that makes sense. |

Thanks for that advice.

I think that is exactly what I was imagining when talking about master/slave - ie the actions of the android apps are actually executed by the NAS server Bubble and the android Bubble will 'pull' the queue from the NAS version (provided the correct Sonos is the target in the android version). I think I'll designate a particular Sonos unit the lead for a particular group, and make sure all the mobile units do the same. I'll come back if it pans out OK (or not !) |

Looking at the BubbleUPnP Server, Requirements and features page, I have the Intel installation package downloaded, but the link to 'detailed instructions' gets a 404 not found. Any idea where these might now be ? |

Is it via the QNAP app centre/Install manually thing (that has several warnings) ? I've never used QNAP but I would imagine so. Looking at the MinimServer QNAP documentation (as a reference), it states: Quote:Use the App Center "Install Manually" button to install the package file you downloaded in the previous step. This button is near the top right-hand corner of the App Center window and looks like four small squares overlaid by a + inside a circle. Looking at this post it suggest there's a QBubbleUPnP app on the QNAP store, but I wouldn't have thought it's an official release given there's no mention of it in the BubbleUPnP Server documentation. |

Thanks again for the quick advice.

RE: Minim stream being throttled on QNAP NAS ?
It looks like QBubbleUPnP is a very old package (last reference I can see is from 2016). You should download the current version of BubbleUPnPServer from the bubblesoftapps site and do a QNAP manual install, ignoring the warnings.
