Thank you Simon, will do.

I wonder if I am correct that the only time a tag update is done is when a MinimServer scan/rescan is done

Thanks, Peter

Yes, this is correct. Any changes to the tagUpdate file won't be applied until the next MinimServer scan, rescan or restart.

The restart case could be "interesting" because changes to the tagUpdate file would be applied but changes to the library would not be applied.

Lumïn app (on iOS) user here … and Minimserver is running on Ubuntu
AFAIK (ie in my experience) Lumïn automatic library update (just update, not a reload) is triggered only by any change in albums count, therefore if your script leads to a different total album count this can explain that behavior

I have never understood the difference between a LUMIN update and a LUMIN reload. Don't they both read the complete MinimServer library?

RE: Best iPad App for MinimlServer
The library update just “update” the library content (new or changed albums/tracks) and takes few minutes, the library reload instead delete the current library and reload it from scratch and takes much more time.
On my site (8TB library) the “update” takes around 10/15’ while the “reload” takes around 45’

RE: Best iPad App for MinimlServer
Thanks, this sounds like the update checks last modified dates of all files and reloads only those that have been changed or added, so the library is scanned completely but not loaded completely.

Can LUMIN still be used for browsing while this is happening? If so, does it show the state of the library before the update/reload started or does it show the state based on how far it has got with the scanning/loading?

Yes, Lumïn app can be used while it is updating.
While updating a spinning dented wheel appears on the right of the library name

My understanding was that the reload just reads the library once more which I do when some of my top level covers have changed, as an example; while the update sends the "update" command to minimserver which then scans the library to find new tracks.

Reload does not check for new files, while update does.

That’s not right.
There are three specific buttons :
- Rescan - issues a library rescan to Minimserver, without updating Lumïn app db
- Update - after a Minimserver library rescan it just update the content of Lumïn app db with new/modified albums/tracks
- Reload - it delete the Lumïn app db and reload it from scratch from Minimserver

Stefano,

unless I am wrong (I am currently 7000km away from my home), the rescan button does update the Lumin db, because the new tracks are added to it ?
