Track and album names displayed with replacement character. How to resolve?
I am running Minimserver on my NAS and when I use BubbleUPnP to stream music from my NAS it displays the ganre, track, and album names with replacement characters, see attachment. The tracks' order is back to front.
When I stream from my Jriver Server that is running on a PC on my network, these replacement characters are not showing. I would be grateful for advice on how to fix this. TIA |

The tracks' order is back to front. Could you copy one of these tracks to a temporary location and run the following from the command prompt: Code: fsutil file seteof <filename> 2048The first line truncates the file so it can be handled by certutil and the second writes out exactly what's in your tags to a file called hex.txt e.g. Code: 01e0 32 32 18 00 00 00 10 00 00 00 41 4c 42 55 4d 3d 22........ALBUM=Could you include the contents of hex.txt in your reply (only the bits containing tags are necessary). I'm assuming it's something like a carriage return. Did these tags come from HDTracks? The order should be based on the tracknumber tag. |

What ripping and tagging programs did you use to create the files on the NAS?

See below two commands I ran: I think it's because your path contains spaces (it doesn't know what is part of the path and what is a parameter to the command). To fix that you'll need to quote them: Code: fsutil file seteof "01 - Koln, January 24, 1975, Part I.flac" 2048 |

To understand what has caused the problem, it would be helpful if you could post details of how these files on the NAS were created. If they were ripped from CDs, what ripping and tagging software did you use to do this?

RE: Track and album names displayed with replacement character. How to resolve?
It looks like those tags are NUL terminated for some reason which isn't to spec.
I found this thread that points to it being an issue with an old version of Jriver Media Center (~2013) which tallies with the version in your tags of 17.0.189 (fixed in 18.0.153). I assume you see this problem with just your older files? |

RE: Track and album names displayed with replacement character. How to resolve?
It looks like simply saving the tracks in Mp3tag might remove those NUL characters based on a similar problem discussed in the Mp3tag forums, but without a sample I don't know how to identify them.
I tried to install Media Centre 17.0.189 from their archive but it wouldn't install into a sandbox. I guess you could truncate the track with SOX and upload it? Code: "C:\Program Files (x86)\sox-14-4-2\sox.exe" "input.flac" "output.flac" trim 0 2EDIT: I guess it might be worth trying to update in Jriver first, although I have no idea if you can perform this operation in bulk like you could with Mp3tag. |
