Can't see MinimServer in network player(s) after upgrading to DSM 7
Hi,
I've been using Minimserver successfully on my Synology DS414 NAS for some time now, but have just upgraded from DSM 6.x to DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 3 (the latest version currently available). I followed the upgrade instructions for my particular NAS/version, as per the MinimServer site. I'm running MinimServer v2.1.2-2102, installed via the Synology Package Center. Unfortunately I can no longer see MinimServer on any of my media streaming devices. I can successfully visit the Configuration page at http://192.168.0.5:9790 (which is the IP address for my NAS), and the status is shown as: "Media server status for MinimServer[DS414]: Running" I appear to be able to rescan successfully - the process runs without any error messages, and the music folder location is set correctly. I did not change any network or router settings, I've only made the update to DSM 7 and no other changes. If I open MinimWatch 2 on my Mac all the options are greyed out, apart from "Options", "Refresh" and "Exit". The ohnet.subnet was previously left blank, but I have also tried it with 192.168.0.0 in case that made any difference, without success. My router is a FritzBox 3490, with the latest firmware etc. I have tried turning off the firewall completely, but that made no difference. I have tried rebooting my router, my NAS and my endpoints. I've also tried completely uninstalling MinimServer and reinstalling it from scratch. I'm not particularly tech-savvy, so I'm not sure what else I can try? I've had a good search of the forums but couldn't see anyone else with quite the same issue. Any help much appreciated! |

RE: Can't see MinimServer in network player(s) after upgrading to DSM 7
It seems that you have eliminated most of the probable causes of this problem.
The most likely cause of what you have described is an issue with your Synology firewall settings. Is this the firewall you turned off completely? Does your router have an option to disable IGMP snooping? If so, try doing this. I will update my test system to the latest DSM 7.1.1 see whether it causes any problems. At present I am running 7.1 which is working OK. Edit: I installed DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 3 and network discovery is working OK for me. |

RE: Can't see MinimServer in network player(s) after upgrading to DSM 7
Hi Simon, many thanks for the quick response!
Yes, it was the Synology firewall that I turned off completely. It's so odd - I do think I've tried pretty much everything. I can see the config page just fine, and it says "Running", I just can't see MinimServer as a source on any of my clients/endpoints (sorry, not sure of correct terminology!) any more, and MinimWatch 2 doesn't seem to be able to see it either. All the permissions on the NAS seem to be fine. I've had a good delve into the router's settings and can't see anything relating to IGMP Snooping. I did a bit of a search online for anything relating to my specific router and found this: https://en.avm.de/service/knowledge-base...onnection/ which I think I've interpreted as meaning that the router doesn't do IGMP Snooping by default, and it's not configurable (they talk about disabling it on other devices but not on the router itself). |

RE: Can't see MinimServer in network player(s) after upgrading to DSM 7
I have two suggestions. First, try powering all your network equipment off and on (not just individual devices) as described in this section.
If this doesn't work, set up a test network configuration with the absolute bare minimum to connect your NAS with either MinimWatch or a UPnP control point. If this works, add devices (switches, wireless access points, powerline adapters, etc.) until you find the change that makes the problem start happening. For example, another user with a similar problem found that the issue was caused by a switch (see this post). |
