Static / white noise when chromecasting gapless via Hi-Fi Cast

I'm using MinimServer on a Synology DS220+, with Hi-Fi Cast as the control point on an Android phone, and Chromecast as the music player. All music files are mp3, mostly 320kbps.

When I select 'Chromecast gapless playback' on Hi-Fi Cast it sometimes works fine, but more often it will work for a few tracks, then drop out for 2-3 seconds, then there's static / white noise, and it's game over: when this happens I need to stop casting and restart Hi-Fi Cast. The issue doesn't arise when 'Chromecast gapless playback' isn't selected on Hi-Fi Cast...but then I obviously can't get gapless playback!

I'm always using the latest versions of MinimServer, DSM, Android and Hi-Fi Cast, but the problem has been recurring for well over a year now.

Any ideas as to what the problem is?

Or if this can't be solved, any suggestions for a control point that supports gapless chromecasting?
