RE: Seemingly Serious Problem Updating to MS2 v2.0.6 in Melco N1Z/1
Peter and David: I am envious of the ease with which you were able to install 2.0.6. I guess maybe the problem is on my end after all. Simon, sorry I doubted your prognosis. Any further proposed fixes would be most welcome. Thanks.

I didn't post that it worked for me here as I didn't want to rub salt in the wound

RE: Seemingly Serious Problem Updating to MS2 v2.0.6 in Melco N1Z/1
@GreenMtnGringo:
There have been 35 downloads of MinimServer 2.0.6 and 33 of these downloads have been successful. The only ones that have failed are the two that you have tried. Ths shows that something strange is happening when you do the download. The Melco should not hang when this strange thing happens but this is a separate issue. When strange things happen, powering equipment off and on can sometimes cure the problem. You have already powered the N1 off and on by pulling the mains plug and this did not help. Please now try powering your router off and on. If your N1 is not connected directly to the router but is connected via a switch, please also power the switch off and on. After doing this, try the download again. There is no guarantee that this will help but it is worth trying. |

RE: Seemingly Serious Problem Updating to MS2 v2.0.6 in Melco N1Z/1
Hi Simon. OK, will do, but I recently dragged and dropped over 3GB of FLAC files in one shot from my MacBook Pro to the Melco hard drive via Wi-Fi without interruption or hanging, so I am skeptical but I will try it at your suggestion.
In the alternative, could it possibly have something to do with those three old core files that I was not able to delete due to a lack of permission? Speaking of which, is there a way that I can obtain permission to delete those three files? Thanks very much for your detailed suggestions as to how to try to remedy the issue I am currently facing. There is no possibilty that the core files are related to the download issue.
The permissions issue with deleting these files is specific to the Mac. Do you have a Windows computer? If so, you can use it to delete these files. I will look into how to solve the Mac permissions issue. |

Hi Simon. Yes, I can try using a Windows PC to delete the old core files. In the meantime, if you learn how to do it using a Mac and can post about it here, that would be great. Thanks.

I have done extensive web searching and tried various recommended approaches for deleting these files from a Mac. None of these approaches has worked. I can only suggest that you delete the files using Windows.
MinimServer 2 does not create these files so there will be no need to do this again in the future. |

RE: Seemingly Serious Problem Updating to MS2 v2.0.6 in Melco N1Z/1 [SOLVED!]
Hi Simon. Rebooting the main network router and the connected Orbi Wi-Fi mesh router and satellite did the trick. I am now up and running with v2.0.6. I do not understand why this would be the difference -- my entire network, including the Melco, was working fine in the weeks preceding tonight's reboot -- e.g., I added @ 600 MB of FLAC files to the Melco in one uninterrupted shot via Wi-Fi from my MacBook Pro minutes before the reboot -- but there we are.
Thanks for your help and patience throughout my ordeal. PS -- I was not so lucky trying to delete the three old "core" files in the Melco's MinimServer folder using my Windows 7 desktop. MinimServer showed up as a 'media device' that could be accessed only via Windows Media Player. No big deal -- just reporting back to close the loop. Melco HA-N1ZH60 Mk1 (MinimServer 2.2) → USB → Luxman D-07X Black Edition Centennial SACD Player/DAC → XLR → Mark Levinson No. 523 → RCA → JL Audio E-Sub e110 (active crossover @ 100 Hz) → RCA → Bryston 4B3 (Cubed) → Magnepan .7 |

RE: Seemingly Serious Problem Updating to MS2 v2.0.6 in Melco N1Z/1 [SOLVED!]
I'm glad to hear that rebooting has solved the download problem. It is interesting how often this is successful in such cases.
To access and delete the core files from Windows, do the following: 1) Open a new Windows Explorer window. 2) In the address bar, type \\x.x.x.x where x.x.x.x is the IP address shown on the front panel of the Melco, then press Enter. 3) You will probably be prompted to enter a username and password. The correct values are nobody and nobody. 4) You should see a folder named share. Double-click this to view its contents. 5) You should see a folder named MinimServer. Double-click this to view its contents. 6) You should see the three core files. Select these and press Shift+Delete. |
