Hi-Fi Cast is showing one of my MinimServer instances as offline, with a second copy of the same instance shown as online. Touching the Refresh button in the Hi-Fi Cast server list doesn't correct this problem. There might be some issue with how Hi-Fi Cast implements the UPnP discovery protocol.

Any chance the UDN of that instance has changed since you last used Hi-Fi Cast? If so that would explain what you're seeing. Hi-Fi Cast will list all the servers that it has just discovered as well as those that you have previously selected in the app.

BTW. The last (and only) time I've heard of a discovery problem like adrian's (including problems with Chromecasts and inconsistent behaviour between different apps and devices), a reboot of the router fixed things.

RE: troubleshooting possible network problem
Thanks for these suggestions.

MinimServer stores the UDN in its configuration file, so this could not change except by deliberate action of the user.

In my case, I have definitely not changed the UDN of the server that is showing up twice, once as offline and once as online.

Does Hi-Fi Cast keep some information on disk that I could examine to find out more details of the "phantom" offline instance?

Why is the Refresh button not rebuilding the list and discarding the offline instance?

Assuming you have a new-ish version of the app, select 'Send Feedback' from the navigation drawer. Then tap the 'Include system info' checkbox. Under the 'Media Servers' section you'll see all the UPnP servers that you've ever selected in the app. Assuming you've selected the Online instance you referred to I assume you'll see two entries in there for the same server.

The main reason that offline instances are not removed is because Hi-Fi Cast remembers the server that you previously selected - so it has to be listed in the 'Media Servers' screen even if it is unreachable at the time (because that screen shows the currently selected server). Also, I think it makes for a more consistent user experience to see all of the servers listed rather than the list changing depending on the discover-ability of the servers.

It shouldn't however show the same server twice so I don't know what's going on there.

RE: troubleshooting possible network problem
I checked the system info (very useful) and it showed a different UDN for the offline instance.

How can I delete offline instances that are never going to come online again? I tried doing a force stop of Hi-Fi Cast but the bogus offline instance was still there on restart.

There is an X at the right of the instance line but this doesn't appear to delete the instance.

Hmmm, that's curious 'cos the X should delete it. An alternative is to delete the app data via the Android settings app.

I discovered that I need to touch and hold the X. If I just touch the X, it tries to connect to the server.
