QNAP - TS421 - minimserver 0.8.4.1
Simon,

Just happened to notice that my QNAP was showing an available update for implementation for minimserver which in all recent releases had been prompted by minimwatch but for some reason this wasn't triggered?

I have completed this manually on the QNAPs and everything appears to be OK.

But I haven't been asked to trigger one on the minimserver running on the Melco either.

My reason for opening the post was originally to let you know in case there is an issue with minimwatch but I guess my other question is how do I manually trigger the update if one is required on the MELCO as all recent ones have been via minimwatch?

Hope this makes sense.

The modules showing on properties for the Melco are currently:

minimserver-0.8.235.jar with 0.8.200 also shown in square brackets

Thx

RE: QNAP - TS421 - minimserver 0.8.4.1
The term "update" is unfortunately somewhat overloaded and can mean different things in different contexts.

New versions (such as version 0.8.4.1) are applied using the QNAP App Center. Incremental updates (such as 0.8.4 update 88) are apliied either automatically by MinimServer or manually by MinimWatch.

Right, thanks for the clarification.

So is there something I should be doing for the Melco or is that different somehow?

RE: QNAP - TS421 - minimserver 0.8.4.1
The changes in the 0.8.4.1 QNAP version are specific to QNAP. There is nothing you need to do on the Melco.

Simon

On the Melco - I have just noticed that minimwatch is now telling me to install 8.4 because 8.3 is no longer supported which seems to contradict your earlier advice above.

Have things moved on since then.

If so - how do I force the update on the Melco? Previously things have been updated automatically via minimwatch etc.

ADDED NOTE - bizarrely - I just closed minimwatch and reopened it again to see exactly what the message was that was displayed. This time it says everything is up to date on the Melco at 8.4. Not sure what has happened but rather than scrap the original question I thought I should submit it still.

The PC has been off for around 10 days while we have been away on vacation - not sure if that's relevant?

Thx

RE: QNAP - TS421 - minimserver 0.8.4.1
Thngs have moved on since August and the current supported level of both MinimServer and MinimWatch is now 0.8.4.

Perhaps you have seen a message saying that MinimWatch (not MinimServer) is still at the 0.8.3 level and needs to be updated to 0.8.4. You can check this by selecting Options > About (watch) from the minim icon.

A couple of things.

1 - Should the Melco now be running 8.4 too and if so how do I install that?

2 - You are right that the minimwatch program is still on 8.3. I looked to install an update from within minimwatch but it didn't offer any packages to install and so then I went to your site to download and implement it manually (W10).

I have McAfee running and it immediately intervened and showed me this warning message. I am assuming everything is OK and have downloaded it but thought I should flag it to you for info and just to check before installing.

I assume it's OK but better safe than sorry. I am guessing it may have something to do with the java element?

RE: QNAP - TS421 - minimserver 0.8.4.1
You always need to download new versions. The online update is only for updates within the same version.

The "false positive" warning from McAfee might be caused by something in the file or because this file hasn't been downloaded very often by McAfee users. You can safely ignore it.

I thought you said in an earlier post that everything is up to date on the Melco at 0.8.4. As you already have 0.8.4 on the Melco, you don't need to install it.

I will install the minimwatch version - thanks.

Re the Melco - Confusion re this I think. The Melco remains on 8.3. When I ask minimwatch to look for updates for that box it indicates all packages are up to date. When I asked about this difference in my original post (not today's) you said the updates weren't relevant to the Melco. Are you saying it requires update to 8.4 now? If so how do I do that?
