DSM 6 Synology and MinimServer

I'm running Minimstreamer on a DS112 with DSM 5.2 (ARMv5). The 6.0 update is aviable. Will DSM 6.0 slow it down?

You need to allow for non-Synology approved software to be installed:
Go to Package center/Settings?trust level and set the choice to allow for third party developers to install.

Important: If you're running DSM 5.1 or later, make sure the Package Center Trust Level is set to 'Any publisher'.

I'd like to update MinimServer 0.8.3 as I understand it is no longer supported.

I've read in Running MinimServer instructions: "From 0.8.3 onwards, MinimServer and MinimWatch can automatically check for and installs the latest online update if it isn't already installed. This requires the computer or NAS running MinimServer or MinimWatch to be connected to the internet and the .autoUpdate property to be set to true (the default value)."

Well, (1) NAS is connected to internet and (2) DSM setting are set to update "all packages", yet DSM Package Center setting don't let me update MinimServer.

Should I update manually?

If so, which file should I download on Downloads page for a Synology DS212j? Diskstation Control Panel tells me CPU is Marvell Kirkwood 88F6281, but I don't see this CPU listed.

The automatic updates of minimserver are not done by the DSM package center (at least not on my DS213+. In some DS-versions the minimserver package is installable via the package center and in this case I expected it should be updated by DSM, too. If you installed it manually, DSM does not update the package).

Instead minimserver updates itself on startup/restart as long as this is configured that way in its property settings, that you can alter by using minimwatch. But AFAIK only minor versions are updated this way. Major versions have to be installed manually. You can check for updates manually using minimwatch (I think by choosing the "about" menu item and there "check for updates".)

If you need to update manually you have to know the processor type of your NAS:

In case of the DS212j this is "Marvell Kirkwood ARMv5TE compliant (Feroceon® family)". So the "Synology ARMv5" package will be the correct one.

Yes, you should install the latest 0.8.3.4 version manually. This is a new version, not an online update.

Are you running DSM 6.0? If so, you should carefully follow the DSM 6.0 instructions for an ARMv5 NAS at the top of this page.

You are correct that this is how it is supposed to work.

Unfortunately, Synology have not yet made the current 0.8.3.4 version of MinimServer available in the Package Center, even though I sent it to them over 6 weeks ago. This is the reason for the current problems that many users are having with this update.
