When it stop being visible, on the Iphone or Ipad, I do:

Double click the Home button to bring up the fast app switcher.
Swipe to the app you want to force quit.
Touch the app card and flick it up and off the screen.

I just found that the MMI connect app would stay 'visible' longer by pressing the home button, after being opened in Windows Media Player, to send it to the background and also by plugin the phone/tablet to the charger (my average, by doing those 2 things, is closer to 5 minutes).
