Install on NAS
Hi
I am running Minim very successfully. It is installed on an old laptop which acts as a server pointing Minim to my NAS and various External Hard Drives hanging off the laptop.
I am thinking of buying a new NAS, probably one of the two bay Synology ones and installing two 3TB hard drives in them.
Now the question (not before time I hear you say). If I do that, do I instal Minim on one of the hard drives or on the NAS two bay itself. If the latter, do I need to use PuTTy etc to get me there. I have looked at another thread here which shows how to do this but I ma not sure whether my computer skills stretch that far.
The alternaive for me is to replace one of my 1TB Externals with a 3 TB and hang that off the laptop.

Many thanks

Reg

The good news is that this is very simple and doesn't require any Linux skills. You can install MinimServer on the Synology using the Synology Package Center and use MinimWatch (running on a PC or Mac) to manage and configure MinimServer (no PuTTY required). This is how MinimServer is designed to be used and it will give you much better performance than your current setup if your music library is either on the 3TB internal drives or on a USB-attached external drive.

RE: Install on NAS
Hi Simon

These may be slightly off-the-wall questions! I've tried to make them answerable with Yes/no to save your time
1 Is it possible to use Windows Scheduler to schedule a restart, and therefore a rescan, of MinimServer during the night?
2 If it is, would I have to turn off MinimServer before retiring for it to be able to turn back on?
3 If I didn't do that, am I right to assume that nothing would happen, and my library would not be updated?

Many thanks

Reg

I am not familiar with Windows Scheduler and I'm unable to answer these questions. If Windows Scheduler is able to automatically restart the machine at a given time every night, this should do what you need.
