"unexpected end of file at offset (x...)"?
What does the above error message mean? Is this a tagging issue, or something else? The files which have this message will not play (or show up on a control app), but they play fine using other players (iTunes, Jriver, MPD).

This is usually caused by a formatting error within the file's internal chunking structure. Older versions of JRiver had a bug that caused files to be created with an incorrect chunking structure.

You can fix this by doing a file conversion using a converter program such as dBpoweramp. The output type for the conversion should be the same as the input type, such as FLAC to FLAC or AIFF to AIFF. The conversion won't change the file's tags or audio data but will fix the formatting error.

Thanks Simon. Ted B. gave me the same advice over on another forum. I did aiff-aiff transcoding via XLD and indeed it solved the issues.
