The situation would be similar to any headless Linux machine such as a SheevaPlug. You can find all the information you need for installing MinimServer on Linux on this page.

OK, thanks for that. We have now reached a dead end on this, as the developer of Alt-F says the Dlink DNS 323 is too limited on CPU and memory, to run java. This is too unfortunate.

There are currently two revisions of the D-Link DNS-323, revision A1 and B1. Revision A1 uses a Marvell 88F5181 CPU along with a separate SATA chip. Revision B1, on the other hand, uses a Marvell 88F5182 CPU which integrates SATA into the SoC itself. The DNS-323 revision B1 is also sold by Conceptronic as the CH3SNAS.

I'm just trying to see if this can happen, since according to the linked page, Debian can be installed on this box.

The 64MB of RAM rules out the possibility of running Java and MinimServer. MinimServer can run on a 500 MHz ARM CPU, but not with as little as 64MB of RAM. Installing Debian wouldn't help.

This support is now available in MinimServer update 42. It should work when MinimServer is running on a platform with a native graphical interface (Mac, Windows, some Linux). You can't do this with MinimWatch, only with MinimServer.
