Changing tag names

After a longer try with JRiver I think, I'll go back to minim server because it’s the much better solution.

Now the problem: I had installes miim server on my Raspberry gefore and it worked very well. Now I reinstalled it and it works, but I have to configure it for scratch. This is hard for me because I very often don’t understand the help texts because I’m not a specialist.

For the moment my problem is: I’d like to cutomize the tag names which are displayed on my control point. This means: I’d like to read there »Komponist« not »Composer« and so on. I know this is possible, because I had this, but I can’t find the option I have to set in order to achieve this. Can anybody tell me how it works or where I find the text describing this? I searched through the help file for nearly two hours and found a lot which is like chinese for me, but not the slightest hint about this minor problem.

EDIT: Finally I found something:»For example, to read and index the Composer tag and display it as Komponist, you would use Composer:Komponist as the indexTags entry.« But this is not true. If I set this option, I get »composer« *and* »Komponist«. I’d like to have »Komponist« *instead* of »Composer«. I’m sure it was possible. Did this change?

This is the right way to do it. It has not changed and it is working correctly for me, with just Komponist and not Composer in the index.

After changing this property, you need to restart MinimServer using the Restart option from the minim icon. Depending on what control point you are using, you might need to restart the control point and/or reload its local cache.

Thanks. Now it works. Anyway. I’ll stay with JRiver. I hate it, because it crashes quite often, but I’m able to configure it as I want. Minim Server is much better, I’m absolutely sure, but it’s too complicated for my brain...

I'm sorry to hear this. My experience has been the opposite, with the large number of configuration menus and options in JRiver making it almost impossible for me to find out how to do what I want.

Can you give some other examples of things that are simpler to configure in JRiver than in MinimServer? I am wondering if it might be possible to create a "How to..." page that covers some basic configuration settings.

Simon I think scenario based pages like Im trying to do with my blog would help, but here are some other ideas:

- Having tooltips on the configuration page that summarised what the options meant
- Having searchable Help assessible directly from the configuration page
- Being able to swap configuration settings and providing some more complete configurations, the starting one is rather minimal.

Thanks for these suggestions. They are interesting but not directly relevant to the OP's issue or the question that I asked the OP about his/her experiences of the ease of configuration of MinimServer vs JRiver.
