Minim on volume1 Synology
hello,
just an idea and questions from a noob... so maybe useless : on Syno NAS, DSM is installed on each disk, and packages are installed on volume1. if on a 4-bay NAS you create 2 volumes : - volume1 is a ssd, where all packages are installed - volume2 is the 3 other HDDs, with the music files. Thru the app on tablette, does Minim react faster with such setup, due to Minim installed on a SSD ? Question regarding Minim : when Minim "scans" the music files, it creates an "index" of all tags/files location etc... I guess. 1. If Minim is installed on SSD (volume1), the access to this "index" might be quicker ? yes/no ? 2. does Minim scans and build a library with the pictures (covers) ? Thru the upnp app on my tablette I fast access to lists (artists, albums etc...), but there is delay to get the covers.... like if to get the cover the NAS have to access to the music file and extract the cover from it. I ask this because I tested the Lumin app and apparently this app build a very complete library/index with all tags AND pictures. Does Minim work the same way ? Just questions to understand how Minim works on my Syno :-) Thanks & Rgds |

RE: Minim on volume1 Synology
The location where MinimServer is installed should not make any difference to performance.
The MinimServer "index" is a file in the MinimServer shared folder. This would normally be on /volume1 but I believe there are cases in which it could be on another volume. If the MinimServer shared folder is on SSD, theis will slightly improve the responsiveness of MinimServer. The location of the music library will also affect performance. This is because album covers are streamed from the library. If the library is on SSD, this will improve the performance of retrieving album covers. The LUMIN app downloads the complete library metadata and caches it on the client side. I don't know whether this cache includes album art images. The decision on whether or not to use client-side caching is taken by the control point, not by MinimServer. |

So does the Naim control app and so does BubbleUPnP. |
