multi-folder Album Art location
If I have an album organized as
Album folder.jpg CD1 audio files CD2 audio files (no embedded art, no Disk tags) In tag view, I do not see cover art. Do I also need folder.jpg within both "CD1" & "CD2" If so, why ? If I do need folder.jpg within "CD1", do I also need it in "Album" |

RE: multi-folder Album Art location
The folder.jpg file for an album must be in the same folder as any of the audio files of the album (see this section). In your example, it could be in either the CD1 or CD2 folder. It doesn't need to be in both these folders and it doesn't need to be in the Album folder.

RE: multi-folder Album Art location
I agree that this would be nice. The problem is that it is not simple to do this in a way that works as the user expects for all possible folder hierarchies.
MinimServer does not assume that the user's library is organised as an Artist > Album > Disc hierarchy. This means it would not be safe for MinimServer to infer that the parent folder of a folder that contains files from an album disc (including the common case of a single-disc album tagged with DISCNUMBER=1) is an album folder that should have special treatment for its folder.jpg file. The rules to identify this situation would need to be something like this: 1) The folder A contains a single folder.jpg file with no audio files 2) The folder A contains multiple subfolders 3) All the subfolders of A contain only files with the same ALBUM=albumname tag 4) Each of the subfolders of A contains only files with the same DISCNUMBER tag 5) If all the above are true, apply the folder.jpg image in folder A to the album albumname These rules are complex to specify, understand and implement. Also, they would not work correctly if an artist folder contains a single multidisc album by that artist and the disc folders appears directly under the artist folder, i.e., artistname ..albumname disc 1 ..albumname disc 2 rather than artistname ..albumname ....albumname disc 1 ....albumname disc 2 In the first case, a folder.jpg file in the artistname folder would be applied incorrectly to the album albumname. |
