MinimServer and Spotify
I'm storing my music on an external drive connected to my iMac, running MinimServer and accessing everything through a Naim Unitiqute.
This setup works really well for my local music library – all the files show up fine, whether they’re ripped from CD or downloaded purchases. Recently I’ve been trying to integrate Spotify tracks into the same library so I can browse them via MinimServer. The problem is that Spotify songs I’ve added don’t appear. They’re stored in a separate folder from my local files, but I already pointed MinimServer to that folder in the settings. From what I can see, the local music files are standard formats (FLAC, AAC, MP3), but Spotify saves its downloads in an encrypted format that doesn’t seem to be recognized. I know there are third-party tools out there (like DumpMedia Any Music Converter) that claim to turn Spotify downloads into regular formats, but I’m not sure how practical or sustainable that approach is. Has anyone managed to get Spotify files working with MinimServer, or is it simply not possible because of the way Spotify protects its downloads? |
