Advice on Search
Hi again
I have my music organised by Foobar2000, and use its tag system of 'Comment', and a new tag added by myself called 'Notes'. I do this to cross reference various identities of artists e.g. the band 'Hotlegs' is labelled 'early 10cc' in Notes. Both Bubble Upnp and HiFi Cast present the two tags as containers showing my entries, but when I initiate a general search for 10cc, the Notes tag is not searched, thus omitting the Hotlegs track. Searching Foobar's own upnp server does list the track with the 10cc songs in the search result. In short - can I tell Minim to make the containers available to searching. or is it down to the limitations of my control points? Thanks Clive. |

When you do this kind of search, are you using the foobar2000 program to do the search or are you searching using a UPnP control point such as BubbleUPnP or Hi-Fi Cast? If you are searching your foobar2000 library using the foobar2000 program, this is a local search and not a UPnP search. A UPnP search is limited by what is permitted in the UPnP specification. A local search doesn't have this limitation. If you are searching your foobar2000 library from BubbleUPnP or Hi-Fi Cast and you see the 10cc songs in the results, I will try to reproduce this here to find out what is happening. |

RE: Advice on Search
Thanks for your answer Simon.
To help you investigate, using Hi-Fi Cast or BubbleUpnp, I can see my library displayed via Foobar2000upnp, Minimserver upnp or Asset upnp on my phone. When performing a search, only Foobar gives me the 'full' result. I look forward to seeing what you find out! |

RE: Advice on Search
I have tested this and confirmed what is happening. When a UPnP control point sends a "title" search query to the foobar2000 UPnP server, it appears that the foobar2000 UPnP server looks in all file tags for a match, not just the Title tag.
This works for your use case but it doesn't seem to be a correct implementation of the UPnP Search specification. MinimServer searches the Title tag only. You can work around this by setting the MinimServer tagFormat property to this value: Title.displayFormat={$title^$notes^ (^)} This adds the contents of the Notes tag (if present) to the track title metadata used by MinimServer for Browse and Search requests. With this change, searching your MinimServer library for 10cc will return all songs that have a Notes tag of "early 10cc". |

RE: Advice on Search
Another option (probably better) is to set tagFormat to this: Artist.displayFormat={$artist^$notes^ (^)}
This adds "early 10cc" to the artist name instead of adding it to the song title, so the artist 'Hotlegs' will be shown in the control point as 'Hotlegs (early 10cc)' and will be found by a UPnP search for 10cc. |
