Minimwatch tray icon replicates on Windows 11 PC after waking from sleep
Hi Simon,

Every time my Windows 11 PC wakes from sleep, the minimwatch tray icon gets replicated in the taskbar (see attachment), however the replicated icon is not functional (non-repsonsive). The replications sometimes fill up the whole taskbar.

Windows 11 Pro 23H2, build 22631.3737
Java 8 JRE (Oracle) version 8, build 381

Would appreciate if this can be fixed.

Kind regards,
Maarten

RE: Minimwatch tray icon replicates on Windows 11 PC after waking from sleep
I have seen this sometimes but it doesn't happen every time my PC wakes from sleep. I have tried a few times to find the cause but without success. The old icons should be removed and replaced with new icons when the PC wakes from sleep. For some reason, the old icons are not being removed.

Mousing over the icon area clears the problem. This makes me suspect it is a Windows UI issue, possibly caused by MinimWatch telling Windows to remove the old icons before Windows has fully initialised its UI.

I have added some additional debug logging so that I can do further investigation the next time it happens for me.

RE: Minimwatch tray icon replicates on Windows 11 PC after waking from sleep
Hi Simon,

Thanks for looking into it.

To be precise and clear:
1. I do not see this sometimes but always when my PC wakes from sleep;
2. The problem has occurred as of lately (it started maybe a couple of months ago), maybe one of the latest Windows 11 updates has caused this to happen?;
3. When I move the mouse over the icons, they do not clear at all but remain present.

Curious if your debug logging will shed some light on this behaviour.

Kind regards,
Maarten

I have moved a post here for a different issue to this thread.

RE: Minimwatch tray icon replicates on Windows 11 PC after waking from sleep
I tried this on Windows 11, Windows 10 and Windows 7. In all cases, three tray icons for different MinimServer instances were showing when the machine entered sleep mode.

On Windows 11 and Windows 10, all old tray icons were removed automatically and replaced with new working tray icons.

On Windows 7, two of the old tray icons were not removed but disappeared when the mouse was moved over them.

When you awake from sleep on Windows 11, is the desktop shown immediately or do you get a login/password screen first?

I have confirmed that this is the reason why additional icons are displayed on Windows 7. By disabling the login screen on resume from sleep, I was able to observe the following after the resume:

1) All old icons are removed
2) The default grey icon is displayed
3) The wi-fi network connection is reestablished
4) The grey icon is removed and new functional icons are created

It appears that if step 1 happens while the user is logged out, some or all of the old icons remain on the taskbar.

My lock screen is indeed protected. When my PC wakes from sleep I use PIN to unlock.
