By the way I answered you earlier that I was running the MinimServer on the Mac. However there is a MinimServer v2.1.2 running on a QNAP NAS mounted as a SMB share when I need to eg. rescan it. Hope this helps.

From your latest post, I am not sure whether you are rescanning from MinimServer running on your Mac or MinimServer running on your QNAP. When I see the log file, this should become clearer. I have sent you a PM with details of how to get the log to me.

Thanks for sending the log. There is something a bit strange there. MinimServer is scanning from 09:53 to 10:10, then nothing is happening from 10:10 to 10:29, then the scanning continues and completes at 10:44. Was the Mac asleep (power save) for these 19 minutes?

Even without this gap of 19 minutes, the scan has taken 32 minutes. The is not caused by MinimServer doing a full scan of your library and reading files that have not changed. It is caused by the overheads of scanning the library files across the network using SMB and checking whether each file has been modified since the last scan.

To solve this problem, you should uninstall MinimServer from your Mac and install MinimWatch instead. MinimWatch provides an icon in the Mac menu bar with all the same options as the MinimServer icon including Rescan. When you do Rescan from the MinimWatch icon, the scanning happens on the QNAP and will be much faster because it is reading local files with no network overheads involved.

Many thanks for finding the problem. Also for explaining it so clearly.

I never did understand a configuration with a local and remote server. What I don't understand is why this problem only showed up when i upgraded the local version to 2.1 having worked correctly for the last 8 or so years. Given that I've been running a configuration that doesn't make sense, I don't really need to. I shall install MinimWatch and have every confidence this will work correctly. If this isn't the case, I'll get back to you.

I am not sure why this changed with 2.1 or why the network scan is taking so long for you. I tried a network scan with a smaller library (about 1300 files) and this took 3 seconds across the network from a Windows PC (430 files per second) and 13 seconds across the network from a Mac (100 files per second). A local scan took 3 seconds (the same as the network scan from Windows) so it seems there is some performance issue when doing this from a Mac.

I will be interested to hear how long a rescan takes when you do it locally on the QNAP.

Please don't look any further: it was caused by me deciding to upgrade from MinimWatch to MinimServer by accident (stupidity is another word) by the move to 2.1. Again thank you for finding this so quickly. It works fine now I've reinstalled MinimWatch.
