Handling gapless tracks when the format is DSD
Apologies if this is a known issue but I have just discovered that MinimServer does not handle gapless tracks when the format is DSD. I don't remember this being an issue prior to v2.
The problem occurs on both my Melco and Qnap servers so it is not a server issue. The same tracks, albeit from my "master" SSD on my Mac via Audirvana, play seamlessly. Any suggestions? Melco N1ZH/2 (updated to EX) MinimServer2, Chord M Scaler, DAVE, SPM1200MKII, Wilson Benesch Vectors |

RE: Handling gapless tracks when the format is DSD
There has been no change to this in MinimServer 2 or MinimServer 2.1.
Gapless playback is implemented by the control point and renderer, not the server. Which control point and renderer are you using? Are your files DSF or DFF? |

RE: Handling gapless tracks when the format is DSD
Thanks for the speedy reply Simon, the control points are either the Melco app on iOS or it’s predecessor mconnectHD again on iOS for the Qnap. The files are .dsf.
TBH, I have so few of these that normally it would be teeth grinding but bearable, but the gap makes my mScaler see the second track as a new track and not an extension so mutes the stream to download 1.4 seconds worth of music to process before releasing it to the DAC. That is not liveable with. I could convert the DSD to DXD to resolve the problem but I’d rather not. RE: Handling gapless tracks when the format is DSD
Are you using the Melco as your UPnP renderer? If so, the issue is likely to be caused by the UPnP renderer software (USB-DAC) in the Melco.
I have tried playing a DSD128 album using my Melco as renderer with various control points including the Melco HD app. I am hearing the same issue as you. Thre is a short gap with all control points and with both MinimServer and Asset UPnP as the server, so it isn't a control point issue or a server issue. I will contact Melco and ask if they have any suggestions for how to solve this issue. |

RE: Handling gapless tracks when the format is DSD
Thank you Simon. Yes, I am using the Melco as renderer for my DAC. Also noticeable using Qnap and Apple AirPlay as renderer with mconnectHD as control point, but I can live with this as it is my secondary/backup system.

RE: Handling gapless tracks when the format is DSD
I have done some more testing. In my setup, the gapless problem occurs with DSD128 but not with DSD64. When you have the problem, is this with DSD64 or DSD128?
