When I try to upload the Java tar.gz package in Package Management, I get the error message "Invalid file format". Any clue Simon? RE: [Tutorial] Installing Java on a Synology ARMv5 or PPC NAS - simoncn - 19-01-2017 10:25 I haven't done this installation myself because I don't have an ARMv5 Synology NAS. I am also not familiar with DSM 3.1. Have you followed all the instructions in the tutorial at the beginning of this thread? It says there that the Java .tar.gz package should be uploaded using Synology File Station. If you are trying to upload this using Package Management instead of File Station, this will not work. I am also not familiar with DSM 3.1. Yes, I did upload the Java .tar.gz package to the Public folder using File Station as the tutorial says. Unfortunately DSM 3.1 does not have the Package Center but a Package Management. According to this it only installs packages with the .spk extension... RE: [Tutorial] Installing Java on a Synology ARMv5 or PPC NAS - simoncn - 19-01-2017 17:00 It sounds like you have completed step 1) of the Tutorial. You now need to do steps 2) and 3). Are you saying that step 2 does not work with DSM 3.1? If so, you can download an installable .spk file from this link (Java 8) or this link (Java 7). RE: [Tutorial] Installing Java on a Synology ARMv5 or PPC NAS - pediatrik - 19-01-2017 17:33 Correct Simon, step 2 doesn't work since Package Center is a completely different beast than Package Management. Unfortunately running both .spk files of yours only returns "This package is not supported on the platform of DiskStation"... ![]() Maybe I should give up and buy a new NAS. Too bad since the DS207+ otherwise is working perfectly! RE: [Tutorial] Installing Java on a Synology ARMv5 or PPC NAS - simoncn - 19-01-2017 17:49 These are not my .spk files. They are produced by 'patters' who is the author of the pcloadletter.co.uk website. It sounds like your NAS may be too old to run Java. RE: [Tutorial] Installing Java on a Synology ARMv5 or PPC NAS - pediatrik - 19-01-2017 19:25 Bugger! ![]() RE: [Tutorial] Installing Java on a Synology ARMv5 or PPC NAS - PerL - 27-01-2017 10:29 Just wanted to say that the installation instruction seems perfect. It worked fine down to every detail. Cleartly written and with usefull disclaimers you have to watch out for. To those having all sorts of problems, read the instructions carefully down to every detail and you will either understand you have to sort something else first or you will be fine. I have a Synology 411j NAS. RE: [Tutorial] Installing Java on a Synology ARMv5 or PPC NAS - pediatrik - 18-04-2017 21:05 Hi Simon, I'm having the same problem as others before me: - the Patters-package requests ejdk.8u121-linux-arm-sflt.tar.gz - Oracle gives me ejdk.8u131-linux-arm-sflt.tar.gz. Now I can't get the java package to start... Nas is a Synology DS212j, DSM6 RE: [Tutorial] Installing Java on a Synology ARMv5 or PPC NAS - simoncn - 18-04-2017 21:41 The Oracle Java SE Embedded Downloads Archive page has links to all old versions. |
