Problems with Synology DS213j/Lumin - Rucki - 26-09-2013 07:38

Hi, I'm trying to get my Lumin App running. I have many DSD and Flac HD Files I would like to stream through Lumin player. But bevore I buy the player I would like to see everything is running....

First I installed the Oracle Java 6 on my NAS because I couldn't install the newest version of Java. The error "I expected the File...." was shown. Java 6 was running properly

First the Minimserver was not visible in my Lumin, Plug Player or Kinsky App. I have a "Olive Media streamer App" where the minimserver was visible. After a couple of days the minimserver was visible in Lumin (I did not change anything...it just was there)

But the first time I closed Lumin App the Minimserver went Offline. I could not get it online back again.

Then I found the thread in this forum to download the other Java 7 file and rename it to the name needed.

I reinstalled Java 7 and Minimserver. Minimserver was visible immediatly in my Lumin after reinstalling. But again....after the first time closing Lumin App i can't get the minimserver online. Restarting Minimserver does not work. Sometimes Minimserver is Offline even in Minimwatch and then online again. I can't tell when or why

Can anybody help me with this?

Thank you very much in advance, best regards Rucki

This sounds like a network issue with multicast discovery. Unfortunately, these discovery problems can be quite difficult to diagnose and solve.

What wireless router or access point are you using to connect your iPad running the LUMIN app? Does this router or access point have a setting to enable or disable IGMP snooping?

Hi simoncn

My router is Zyxel P-660HN-F1Z

But I can't get in the configuration menu. I am just able to view the status. There is no information about IGMP snooping.

Monday I'm going to call my provider.....

Best regards, Reto

Rucki, we've tested the Lumin Player (in 3 articles http://www.hificlube.net/pt/artigos/reviews-testes/lumin-network-player-3.aspx) but with tested it by installing the Minimserver on a PC, using the PC to work as the music server. It works perfectly and with native DSD files it's amazing.

Now we got a NAS from Synology to test, a DS213j, but I can't see to get the java package installed. I really can't seem to understand what's happening. How did you manage to install the java package? I'm reading that DS213j is not compatible but maybe those are olds posts from forums arround the web. I can't quite believe that a new and high end NAS product is not compatible!

You should be able to install the Java package from patters on the DS213j. Please follow the instructions from this page.
If it doesn't work, please give a detailed description of the problem you are seeing.

Hello Winxi,
I can't even install the Java Package from the DSM Package Center.
And on Synology website the Java Package is only available for 2 bay 700 series. Maybe I need to change the NAS for on of those.

Again, please follow the instructions from the page linked above. In particular, you have to add the package repository URL from patters to the package center to make the 'Java SE for Embedded package' appear in the Synology package center.

The Java Manager from Synology is available for all x86-based models. It isn't limited to the 2-bay 700 series. For models with an ARM or PowerPC processor, everything will work OK if you install the alternative Java package that winxi has mentioned.
