The beauty of ChatGPT ! - lyapounov - 29-12-2025 12:46 Friends, as much as this forum is full of information, like many good forums on the net, as much I more and more find the solution to hard tech problems using chatGPT. Let me give you the last example: Fiber arrived recently to my home. I want to put my ISP box (Freebox) in bridge mode, and use my ASUS router to manage all my network. Fine but then it seems that, with this configuration, I need to put IGMP snooping ON for the TV flux to reach the Free TV Box; which Simon always says to put OFF. So I asked chatGPT, giving it also the fact that my synology and my Klimax are on a manageable xytel switch. Here is the answer from the cat: 1. Disable IGMP snooping on the router (ASUS). • This ensures MinimServer multicast discovery works unhindered. 2. Leave IGMP snooping off on the Xytel switch, or enable it if you want to optimize multicast, but make sure: • The ports with MinimServer + player are in the same multicast group. • Free TV port is on the same VLAN/LAN. 3. Multicast routing / querier • Only needed if you have multiple VLANs. On a single LAN, leave it disabled. 4. Confirm both devices discover each other • MinimServer → player • Free TV → Freebox On a single VLAN, the easiest and most reliable is just to disable IGMP snooping everywhere. Multicast will naturally flood to all ports, which is fine for a small LAN. I must confess that chatGPT is remarquably accurate for such geeky questions ! |
