When I go through my library, I get this “>> Hide content” message.
Is there a way to hide this screen so that I don’t have to click extra and can go straight to “View all”?

The reason for this extra step (annoying, I know) is explained in this section. You can disable it by setting showExtras to false but you will lose some functionality if you do this, as explained in the section.

Thank you for your prompt response, Simon, and please accept my apologies for asking a question that I could have found the answer to in the documentation. I had the impression that I had already looked into this some time ago.
I'll try the showExtras setting today, which means I'll lose the following options:
1.) the ‘>> Tag View’ choice when browsing a folder in the folder view
2.) the ‘>> Complete Album’ choice in a list of album items
3.) the ‘>> Show All’ choice when browsing an alphabetically grouped list
4.) selectable disc headings for individual discs in a multi-disc album
I can live with that, because most of the items on this list are not important to me, but the ‘>> Show All’ option in the alphabetically grouped list could be a disadvantage. Let's see what I really need, maybe I'll adjust my selection in the alphabetically grouped list better.
