Set up MiminServer on QNAP - PK4 - 20-12-2024 15:43 Please help! I am trying to set up MiminServer to manage my music Library on my new QNAP TS-133, which I have set up. I have created a music storage folder (with albums) and downloaded Miminserver to the QNAP. But I cannot figure out this next step in Miminserver instructions: "Enter the full path to your content directory in the field below and click Save. To find the correct path to enter, you can use File Station, as shown on this page." My TS-133 File Station folder does not look anything like the content on "that page", but still, I did attempt to follow those instructions, and added the full path to my content directory and got this message: "Content directory isn't a folder: /share/DataVol1/mymusic" Is there a video out there that has step-by-step for Miminserver set up on a NAS? Thanks much! RE: Set up MiminServer on QNAP - Peter@57m - 20-12-2024 16:16 Just guessing but try just /share/mymusic/ if you have not tried this already. Note its case sensitive, so if its Mymusic that's what you should use. When you look at filestation mymusic should be at the same level as Public and other top level directories for the above to work. From my filestation: [attachment=3281] In my properties: [attachment=3282] RE: Set up MiminServer on QNAP - PK4 - 20-12-2024 17:35 Thanks Peter, that did help. Funny, before I even changed that to "mymusic", some of the NAS music content started appearing on my Lumin streamer (where I was trying to ultimately view and play my music). This is a first time set up, so I am unclear how this works. But when I wemnt back and checked "Music Server, MiminServer" on the Lumin app, more of my music has appeared. It is a scattering though, with some complete albums and some that only have one or two songs. Does this populate slowly or? Should I be restarting everything to get it to see ALL my music? Thank you!! RE: Set up MiminServer on QNAP - Peter@57m - 20-12-2024 17:44 It can be slow first time you index your music depending on the size of your library and the speed of your NAS. Subsequent scans are quicker. When you add new music to the folder your need to do a rescan. If you are using Lumin, you can do this from "Library Options" in Setup. How much appears may also depend on how well you files are tagged. In Lumin look in the Folder tab for (untagged) to see what's there RE: Set up MiminServer on QNAP - PK4 - 20-12-2024 19:17 Thanks Peter, those were some good suggestions! Trying additional scans now. I see maybe 20+ individual songs in that untagged location you mentioned. Will additional scans get them where they need to go? Don't know much about tagging. RE: Set up MiminServer on QNAP - Peter@57m - 20-12-2024 23:00 No additional scans won't pick them up. They will need tagging/the tags changing. Do you have a Mac or a PC device? There are free programs you can use to tag your music. MP3Tag is popular and versatile. I've used it on Windows and I believe its also now available for Mac. RE: Set up MiminServer on QNAP - PK4 - 21-12-2024 05:27 I set up the QNAP on my iMac. The albums I am transferring to QNAP's File Station (and picked up my Miminserver), are on an external hard drive plugged into the NAS by USB. All of this is very new to me, so while I am struggling a bit, I am happy to finally see some of my music via the Lumin on the network. What I can access on there reveals a lot of albums that have only one or a couple songs in them, and quite a few missing cover art. I'll have to figure out this 'tagging'. I just checked and MP3Tag for Mac costs $25. I'd spend the money if it sorted out all the missing files and files with missing data. But I am concerned about how to use it. None of the tasks in this NAS adventure have been easy. Is MP3Tag downloaded to the NAS? I read about it and what it does, but the MP3Tag website does not say how you use if or give any indication how easy it is for the layperson. Any thoughts? Thanks! RE: Set up MiminServer on QNAP - Peter@57m - 21-12-2024 09:39 Just did a quick search on the forum and Metadatics seems to be the recommended tagging program for mac (I am a PC user). Perhaps some mac users can comment. Minimserver does the indexing of your music files when you do a Rescan through the Web interface, Minimwatch or using Lumin as I mentioned before. Lumin builds a separate index of your music server, in this case minimserver. It could be that Lumin built its index on a partly built minimserver index (it was still to finish). So try doing a minimserver rescan and leave it for a while to make sure its finished. Then do a Lumin Library reload. Hopefully this may sort most of the problems. Something else to check is the minimserver log. You can do this using minimwatch. This will show any issues that minimserver is finding with your files that are preventing them from being indexed. You could also try installing the Linn Kazoo app on your phone/tablet (this should work OK with your Lumin player). This will give an unfiltered view of the minimserver indices as Kazoo does not build a separate index. May help to see if the issue is with minimserver or the Lumin app. RE: Set up MiminServer on QNAP - stefano_mbp - 21-12-2024 10:26 In my experience Yate (2manyrobots) is the best one, using it for more than a decade and always had great support from the developer RE: Set up MiminServer on QNAP - simoncn - 21-12-2024 11:09 (21-12-2024 09:39)Peter@57m Wrote: So try doing a minimserver rescan and leave it for a while to make sure its finished. If you are using the MinimServer configuration web page to do a rescan, the status on that page changes from Rescanning to Running when the scan is complete. This will show any issues that minimserver is finding with your files that are preventing them from being indexed. If you don't have MinimWatch running, you can view the MinimServer log by looking at the minimserver.log file in the MinimServer/data shared folder. In the log, a message starting with "Warning" means the file was read and added to the MinimServer library even though it had some errors. A message starting with "Error" means the file was not added to the MinimServer library because it had an unrecoverable severe error. You should start by doing this before you make change any changes to your files with a tagging program. |
