The gapless nightmare.. - wappinghigh - 18-08-2013 23:05

Seems PlugPlayer adds the gaps back when using it as a UPnP controller with MinimServer. Am I right? Is this a specific problem with PP? And will JRiver be better as a controller once it works in this way with MinimServer in the next firmware release of MinimServer?

I am not getting gaps when I use PlugPlayer to control my Linn DS. What renderer are you using?

If you use JRiver as a controller for MinimServer, you will lose the indexing/browsing features of MinimServer and you will get JRiver's indexing/browsing interface instead. This is because JRiver is not a UPnP controller in the normal sense, but uses UPnP to import the server library into its own internal database.

Are you able to try using BubbleUPnP as the controller? This might solve the problem with gaps.

If I understand correctly, it is the renderer not the controller that governs whether gapless playback works. I have a PSA PerfectWave DAC MkII plus Bridge [a network interface] that does not do gapless -- because it was not designed to. And I have a Simaudio MiND, which does gapless -- as it was designed to. I have tried three different players and the results are consistent on each renderer.
