In my view, MinimServer was also innocent of any misuse of BBC streams.

What constitutes being worthy of authorisation in the eyes of the BBC then? What do Naim do differently?

My day to day radio is a Naim Muso which was working ok until roughly 2pm.I then checked my Linn streamer and Naim Headphone Edition which were both similarly affected.

Absolutely true. The value added was the ability to pass the stream to UPnP renderers, not to modify or monetize or in any way adulterate it.
I'm in UK. Today I found I can no longer listen to BBC Radio streams on my home audio systems. I had to register with BBC and install the Sounds app and now I have the great privilege of getting the same BBC streams but now passed through a phone's mixer and without the ability to pass the streams to my hi-fi. I do have a tvheadend server so can get the Freeview MP2 broadcasts (so long as I'm not recording TV, as it's a single tuner system) but it's hardly convenient especially when I'm away from home. There is really something wrong with the mentality of the BBC. This idea that they need to "authorize" receivers is farcical. Was there ever a rule that you could receive the BBC's FM on your Roberts Radio or your Grundig but not on your Sony or Aiwa or no-name portable? Of course not. But that's exactly what they're doing with digital streams. I assume this can only be in preparation for the FM switch off and as part of a move to gather user data for monetization.

I live in a large village in a valley in Gloucestershire where we are dependent on in-fill repeaters to pick up terrestrial BBC transmissions. However, these do not include DAB so I am dependent on streaming to receive the BBC’s stations that are not on FM. Minimstreamer provided a perfectly acceptable way of managing the cessation of the Shoutcast streams but now I have no acceptable way of listening to 6 Music etc whilst I’m cooking and eating with my family.

I suffer from chronic headaches. Often I need to avoid looking at screens, e.g. mobiles, computers, TV's, for long periods of time. The setup I have, and which otherwise works just fine, allows me to select and switch radio stations with the push of a screenless remote control button. Minimserver allowed me to keep that going even when the change of streaming format would otherwise have rendered it unworkable. With the route the BBC have taken, I don't see how I can do this any more. Even if I could afford a new streaming device (my income has been drastically cut since I bought my current kit, and just in case they forgot, there's a COST OF LIVING CRISIS), all new streamers I've seen rely on smartphone apps for control. Even the ones that have front panel controls also seem have a screen as intense and complex as that of a smartphone. The result is just going to be that I won't be listening to BBC stations as much, particularly when I'm beyond a certain pain threshold, which is a great pity, as BBC radio has often been a comfort at such times.

Only just stumbled on this thread today when my beloved 6Music stopped working through Minimstreamer.
I'll be submitting a complaint to the BBC and to Ofcom. First the BBC withdrew its stations from TuneIn and the like, and now they've cut off the feed to Minimserver. So I now have 6 Yamaha Musiccast devices that (as far as I know) can't play BBC radio streams at all. If I use BBC Sounds app, I can only cast to a Chromecast - the BBC promised to enable other devices in addition to Chromecast, but has failed to do so and has since removed any mention of doing this.
Not only have they left a whole bunch of people unable to listen and with obsolete equipment, they're also trying to quash one of the very few true independent (UK-based) innovators in the area (Simon). They should be supporting people like Simon so they can be included in any changes, not locking them out.
