Recommended Renderers - mmelbourne - 13-06-2023 00:43 Hi all, I am back to looking at Minimserver 2 after a break of a few years; I used in back in version 0.8 days, and am revisiting it and re-remembering all the things I've forgotten. I am looking to replace my Sonos system, which works for me, but has some issues, with a new renderer; maybe a Cambridge Audio MXN10. I have a Denon AVR-X3600H and I can make it work with the HeOS application and Minimserver 2, but I need BubbleUPnP server configured with "Create an OpenHome renderer" to make it appear to other control points, e.g. Linn Kazoo and Lumin, and I'm not sure why this is the case. Running another service on the network isn't an issue par se, but I'd like to simplify the solution as much as possible. I also have Volumio running on a Pi with a HiFiBerry DAC - analogue output into Denon receiver, and this is quite a good solution, but Volumio has, in my experience, never really quite worked well with a large library. That said Volumio, as just a DNLA/UPnP renderer, works well without BubbleUPnP. Ideally, I'd be interested in others' recommendations for renderers which would fairly seamlessly integrate with MinimServer 2. Control Points are largely a matter of personal preference, and I need to try out others, especially as Linn Kazoo is not going to be developed. There's a new Linn App which I've given a cursory glance to, but don't yet have any firm opinions on. Thanks, Matt RE: Recommended Renderers - simoncn - 13-06-2023 08:58 Linn Kazoo and the LUMIN app are limited to supporting OpenHome renderers only. Because your Denon renderer does not support OpenHome, you need BubbleUPnP Server when using these control points. RE: Recommended Renderers - tarnkappe - 14-06-2023 20:02 If you only need a renderer without a DAC I recommend a lumin U2 mini. This is an openhome renderer, so the lumin and linn app can be used. It is not the cheapest solution, but the cheapest that I know with good working openhome support. The other side of the coin is that you get many more choices of hardware and control points when using Bubble UPNP Server (as I do on a Synology NAS). I find Linn Kazoo so much better than the non-OpenHome control points I've tried that it's worth the minor setup inconvenience to use Bubble Server (now with Docker under Synology DSM 7). It works very smoothly for me. |
