Multiple composers - fblack - 18-02-2023 17:35

Please forgive me if this have been covered before, but how do I mark two composers so that they appear as two separate names in my Control Point, which is BubbleUPNP.

e.g. Adler, Richard and Ross, Jerry who co-wrote Hernando's Hideaway, should you wish to know! (Not my usual fare)

I am using Meta to tag, and think I have tried every possible separator.

Best wishes

Fergus

What format are your audio files? (FLAC, AIFF, MP3, M4A, DSF, etc.)

Mostly flac.

Thanks

FLAC files use Ogg/Vorbis comments for tagging. Multiple composers can be tagged using multiple COMPOSER= comments, for example:

COMPOSER=Adler, Richard
COMPOSER=Ross, Jerry

Some tagging programs support this by defining a separator such as ';' or '\\' that you can use in the Composer value to create the tags shown above. Other tagging programs provide an explicit selection in the UI (such as a "plus" button) to add multiple values for a selected tag.

I suggest you contact the author of the Meta tagging program to ask if it has this capability. If it doesn't, the Metadatics tagging program for macOS provides this capability using a "plus" button.

Many thanks. I will report back.

There is bad news and good news. The tagging app Meta (https://www.nightbirdsevolve.com/meta/) doesn't allow for multiple composers, or even artists. Their support isn't as good as yours, either. Pity, because I really like the app.

Fortunately, I also have mp3tag (https://mp3tag.app/). I have discovered that if I simply load the track and save it again, even without changing anything, it writes multiple composers to separate ones, when they have the separator // (edit: Separator should be \\ ).

Many thanks for your earlier help. I will have a look at Metadatics, too.

Best wishes

Thanks for this update. The separator for multiple values in Mp3tag is \\, not //. I know you know this, but other people reading this thread might not!

Sorry - I have corrected the post. More haste, less speed ...
