Any Chance of a MinimServer Control Point App? - GreenMtnGringo - 02-01-2023 17:24

Hi Simon. Have you ever considered developing and releasing a MinimServer control point app for Android/iOS/iPadOS?

An app would be a welcome addition to the MinimServer software suite, especially since the third-party control point apps available currently all seem to have ... idiosyncrasies.

I would gladly purchase an official MinimServer app in the $5-10 USD range that works seamlessly with MinimServer 2.2.

Thanks, and happy New Year.

My time is fully occupied with MinimServer and there is no realistic possibility that I would be able to develop a control-point app. Thanks for asking.

Thanks, Simon. Perhaps a tech-savvy MinimServer user can create a MinimServer-focused control point app.

Lumïn app does a great job with Minimserver … and the same “family” apps Esoteric/Sound Stream and Teac/HR Streamer do it as well

My top choice would be BubbleUPnP. It works well with MinimServer, has just about every feature that a control point should have and supports both OpenHome and 'classic UPnP' renderers.

Unfortunately it doesn’t exist on iOS/iPadOS …

Indeed, that is unfortunate.

Android is not that awful these days, even for those who have been surgically implanted with Apple devices. There is much to be said for getting an inexpensive Android tablet and using it as a dedicated platform for BubbleUPnP (or BubbleDS for Linn and other OpenHome players).

I hope it is not too off topic: Which android tablet is recommendable? Either they are cheap and do not get security updates at all or they are nearly as expensive as iPads but only with a few years (2 or 3) of security update support.

The landscape is changing thanks to Google and Samsung, and I believe Samsung do offer 5 years of security updates on their top tier hardware as can be seen from this post, but I would absolutely want that verified somewhere if I was going to buy one of the more expensive tablets. That being said, if you're looking at a cheaper option with the intention of using purely as a controller then security updates aren't as critical.
