Announcing MinimServer 2.2 - simoncn - 21-12-2022 19:05 MinimServer 2.2 is now available for all platforms. MinimServer 2.2 provides major extensions to the configuration web interface, aimed at making MinimServer easier for users to install and configure. The trial and full licenses now enable additional default settings "out of the box." Users can view and customize these settings (and all other MinimServer and MinimStreamer properties) from the configuration web page without needing to install and run MinimWatch. MinimServer 2.2 can be installed using a "one click" button from an existing 2.1 installation without using MinimWatch (requires MinimServer update 219 or later). MinimStreamer can be installed using a "one click" button from MinimServer 2.2, again without using MinimWatch. If you have previously taken a trial with an earlier version of MinimServer and this trial has expired, updating to MinimServer 2.2 resets this expiry so that you can start a new free 30-day trial to experience the changes in MinimServer 2.2. For a detailed description of the changes in MinimServer 2.2, see this page. RE: Announcing MinimServer 2.2 - stefano_mbp - 21-12-2022 19:33 Great job Simon! Just updated my test instance and everything seems to work fine. Tomorrow I’ll play with it more. For what I can understand after this very fast first view Minimwatch is no longer needed for configuration but still required to analyze logs, is that correct? Thank you and … I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year RE: Announcing MinimServer 2.2 - KreTR - 21-12-2022 19:59 Congratulations and thank you for the ability to configure MinimServer via the web page. It's much easier for me now. My screenreader couldn't handle MinimWatch. Now that I checked, the options are read correctly. Although I am convinced that getting to know the MS options even better to use it would help RE: Announcing MinimServer 2.2 - simoncn - 21-12-2022 20:52 (21-12-2022 19:33)stefano_mbp Wrote: Great job Simon! Thank you for your kind words. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well! This is a (big) step along the way towards removing the need for MinimWatch but not yet the final destination, as you have pointed out. The intention at this stage is to provide a web-based interface with everything needed for a new user to get MinimServer and MinimStreamer installed, running and configured. RE: Announcing MinimServer 2.2 - Peter@57m - 22-12-2022 14:38 Thank you Simon. Very useful update. Just FYI used the web interface to successfully update my QNAP and Melco EX Merry Christmas & Happy New Year Peter RE: Announcing MinimServer 2.2 - DavidHB - 22-12-2022 15:13 Thank you, Simon. A nice (and unexpected) Christmas present, fulfilling one of the more significant promises of MinimServer 2. I think that the decision to stick with the text-based interface we were used to with MinimWatch was the right thing to do. One minor point. Even after installing MinimServer 2.2.1, the QNAP Appstation still shows the version as 2.1.2. Also, if you try to access MinimServer through the Android version of QManager, all you get is a thumbnail of the version 0.8.2 web page, with no option to go further.. Direct web browser access via the network address is, of course, fine. David RE: Announcing MinimServer 2.2 - simoncn - 22-12-2022 17:19 The intention is that the text-based interface will at some point become the advanced configuration interface, with a new configuration wizard as a friendler introduction for new users. At present I have no time estimate for when this will happen. The misleading version number in the QNAP App Center is mentioned in the last paragraph of the Update install section on this page. There is nothing I can do to change this. It will come right eventually when 2.2 is available from the App Center. I have not heard about Qmanager previously. I will take a look at this. At present I have no time estimate for when this will happen. This is good too. My concern was that the web based interface would turn into a forest of check boxes and radio button selections, which, beyond a certain (rather basic) point, can become more confusing than the text interface. But a wizard to get started and then the text interface to refine things further is, for me, pretty much ideal. This is less a case of my failure to read the web page than of the beautifully simple and straightforward update procedure. For all three instances of MinimServer I have installed, no guidance was needed. But it's good to know that, as ever, you were on the case. I now see that it is consistent with QFinder. Both show the version number as 2.1 or ,2.1.2 as you have described, but also display a largish thumbnail of the MinimServer status page, which is the 0.8.1 version. The NAS which was which was previously on version 2.1 displays a placeholder where the thumbnail should be. The MinimServer status page can be opened from QFinder but not from Qmanager, which is a bit of a pain, as that would be the obvious way to work with MinimServer settings from my tablet. But I can still access the page via the IP address and port number. Is it possible that the download link doesn't work? I have agreed to terms and conditions, but download doesn't seem to start. Unfortunately I cannot use install update feature since I am still running 2.1.2 update 218 on my Synology DS920+ Could you please verify? Merry Christmas! Thanks Harry |
