QNAP ARMv5 Future Support? - TravHall - 13-07-2021 01:11

I've just found MinimServer, after many years using the Logitech Media Server.
Hasn't taken long to realise that I needed to update sometime ago.

I'm using an old QNAP TS-212P, which is working perfectly with MinimServer right up to 24/192 FLAC files.

My question is regarding future support for the QNAP updates and if the ARMv5 processor will continue to be supported into the future, or if I should start looking for another QNAP with a newer CPU?

If so, do you recommend either ARMv7 or ARMv8?

Thank you in advance and for an awesome music server.

Support for the ARMv5 processor will continue for as long as MinimServer users need it. As there are a large number of MinimServer users with ARMv5 devices, ARMv5 will be supported for a very long time. However, QNAP is no longer supporting ARMv5 models (such as the TS-212P) for software updates, which means QNAP won't make new versions of MinimServer for ARMv5 available in the QNAP App Center. Instead, you will need to download the ARMv5 version from the MinimServer website and do a manual install in the App Center.

If and when you decide to upgrade your NAS, I strongly recommend going to ARMv8 rather than ARMv7. ARMv8 is more capable, more powerful and more efficient with power consumption.

Thank you Simon, appreciate your information and support.

I'll be going for a licensed copy, this music server is awesome.
Been playing some BIG files and the ARMv5 hasn't skipped a beat, so I'm very happy to hear I can hold onto it for a bit longer Smile

Cheers.
