Track number missing - ChristofS - 21-11-2020 18:37

I am using minimserver on a QNAP NAS and mainly accessing it from a Samsung Smart TV by the built-in DLNA client (about 8 years old, I don't have the model available but can look it up if it matters).

My music files are ordered in Artist/Year - Album/ folders and titled TrackNumber - Title.mp3. They are also tagged mostly complete (artist, track name, year, tracknumber are complete at the very least).

I recently upgraded to MinimServer 2 (Starter for now). Before it was the latest 0.8... release.

Before the update, on the Samsung client I was able to navigate to an album either by Artist/Album/Year or through the folder view, and see the tracks named TrackNumber-Title (to be honest I am not 100% sure if this only worked in folder view or also in the other). That allowed me to play albums in album order. I do not remember if that was just the default or if I had to set some specific configuration option. I am 100% sure I did not manually change any configuration before or after the upgrade.

Now, after upgrading to MinimServer 2, all tracks are shown just by their title, with no track number. The client then just displays (and plays) them in alphabetical order. There is no way to listen to an album in album order. Confusingly, this is even the case in folder view (i.e., folder view does NOT show the filename, which contains the track number).

Is it possible to find out what is the reason for this change in behaviour? Is there some setting that will just present the raw filename to the client, or add the track number to the listed items (or another way that will allow the client to display and play them in track number order)? Is that available in the Starter edition?

I was 100% satisfied with MinimServer 0.8, but if my client is restricted to playing album tracks in alphabetical order, MinimServer is mostly useless to me.

Thanks for your help!

I am not aware of any MinimServer feature that can provide the information your require.

It may be useful to try another control point, other than the Samsung, to determine if the behaviour is consistent.

For example, Kinsky for the pc, or BubbleUPNP for an android device.
If necessary, both of these control points can display each tracks' metadata, such as TrackNumber and file name.

I'm not quite sure if you are refering to MinimServer 2 only or the previous version too. That would be very confusing, as I said, it was working perfectly.

Also, I don't quite understand the use of a folder view if it is not intended to provide filenames.

When you update to MinimServer 2 and leave it in Starter Edition, any custom configuration settings that you had previously created in MinimServer 0.8 are no longer effective. These settings are inactive but they are not lost. To restore these settings, you need to either activate the free 30-day trial license or purchase and activate a full license. This is explained in detail on this page.

To restore your previous configuration settings and confirm that MinimServer 2 still works as it did previously and does what you expect and want, I suggest you activate the free 30-day trial license. This should resolve all the issues you have described.

Thanks. I did just that and indeed it works as expected.

I looked through my configuration (minimwatch -> Properties) and found this setting in "Advanced" tab for "tagFormat": Title.displayFormat={$tracknumber^^ - ^$title}

I assume this makes it show the track number to the client.

So with the MinimServer 2 Starter Edition this setting will be ignored and there is no way to achieve this behaviour?

This setting adds the track number to the Title tag for sending the title to the control point. You need a full license to use this setting. Your other option is to retag all your files to put the track number in each Title tag.
