Minim SQ vs OS & platform - tgb - 26-07-2020 23:29 Hi, did you notice any SQ (Sound Quality) difference when Minim is installed on different OS or platform ? I'm asking this because I've seen Daphile as a contender to Minim. Daphile, known for its lightweight etc... Anyhow, Minim remains ahead (according to me) vs versatility, functionalities, easy to setup & manage etc... Just my case : - minim on a Syno NAS : NAS is a noisy gear => LPS can help => streaming using the USB output using a USB-Ethernet adpater helps a lot - minim on my laptop (W10, "every-day" laptop) : thru the same LAN than the NAS : SQ is a bit worse. Thus : - W10 / Mac / Linux : did you find any diff ? - "do-it-all" computer vs NUC vs Rpi : did you find any diff ? Thanks for sharing Rgds RE: Minim SQ vs OS & platform - simoncn - 27-07-2020 21:14 I run MinimServer on quite a few different devices. For me, the Melco N1 has the best SQ by some margin. I haven't noticed much difference between other devices. I am interested in your comment about using an USB-Ethernet adapter instead of a native Ethernet connection. Which one did you use? Which one did you use?I can't find where I posted some info / this subject... anyway => here is the thread on the french hifi forum where I talked about it : http://forum-hifi.fr/thread-16828-post-365975.html#pid365975 ; google translate may help... Here is the 1st feedback (today) of someone who dare test this stupid idea :-) => it works ! => http://forum-hifi.fr/thread-16828-post-381649.html#pid381649 => here is the short discussion I had with the developer => https://github.com/bb-qq/r8152/issues/27 To answer your question : you need a 1Gb USB-Eth adapter, based on the chipset RTL8153. I tried a CableMatters 10/100Mb => did not work. I tried the 3eur chinese adapters 10/100Mb you can find everwhere on the web, supposed to run with a realteck chipset => did not work => so, 1Gb is ok. The product I tested & works fine : Syncwire 1Gb => https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B074CDL78M/ other adapters that should work, 1Gb based on RTL8153 : - tp-link U300 - this one => https://www.amazon.de/Netzwerkadapter-TechRise-Ethernet-Konverter-Unterst%C3%BCtzung/dp/B01LX8J0RV/ - this one : https://www.amazon.de/deleyCON-Netzwerkadapter-Ethernet-Ultrabook-Tablet-PC-Schwarz/dp/B073J8R95N?th=1 - the Lenovo adapters too, coz seem to be based on RTL8153 Rgds |
