inquiry for help - prem - 15-07-2017 00:07

Hi Everyone,

First of all, I would like to say thanks a lot to the creator of this excellent software being menat for hifi enthusiasts. It is really no doubt a very good instrument for getting desirable SQ of home music system.

Now I am going to stick to the point I have been trying to solve for 4 days...After forcible resetting of my Windows 10 laptop I spent a lot of time to have minimserver and Java installed of my PC. I succeeded after all (thanks time and again to this forum:shySmile...Now minimserver starts, loads, runs...it is visible and under control, but it is not visible within my WIFI and Ethernet home system. Neither BubbleUpnp/mconnect nor Yamaha MusicCast units are able to see it...I am well-aware of the reason of it - Windows Firewall, its deactiavation lets minimserver getting visible...But I don't want to deactivate it completely, I would like to do the way like I did with Roon's visibility - to tick a determined item of the list of Firewall permission section. But that's the problem, Roon is listed there, Minimserver is not..Now the question - I would be obliged to you for your smart prompt - what way one can determine an adeqaute item being referred to "Minimserver" in this Firewall permission section?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Sergey

You need to set a firewall rule to allow inbound connections for Java TM Platform SE Binary.

Thanks for your quick reply and as well advice. I did follow it, I did set the new rule for the inbound connections for java.exe...all is in vain, nothing changed. Tried this many times with all possible settings. Minimserver is still getting visible at once when Firewall is disabled...The new rule doesn't let Minimserver be visible in home network at Firewall active...

The executable file that launches MinimServer is javaw.exe, not java.exe.

After some days passed I should confess that I am still facing with some troubles Minimserver operation concerned...Namely, the app of Minimserver operates unstable. It is used to disappear from time to time from the home network, despite the app shows that Minimserver is running...If the app would be restarted, Minimserver is visible again within the network and ready to work. What kind of problem may be this time? What should I draw attention to?

And one more thing - the playback is also unstable - there are some interruptions and skippings in sound reproduction. Earlier, before the forcible resetting of Windows to its initial settings, I had not known any problem with Minimserver...

Is it possible to presuppose that, namely, this resetting influences so much upon Minimserver operation?

Thanks.

The problem is not with MinimServer as such. The symptoms clearly indicate that you have network discovery and connectivity issues of some sort. Please can you describe your network setup; that is, what player, router and (if relevant) control point you are using, and also which connections are wired and which are wireless. I understand that you are running MinimServer on your laptop; is the music stored there as well?

David

Thank you David for your willing to help.

In general, it is possible to divide my music audition in two ways:

1. Network listening to music via Yamaha MusicCast devices (3 sets)
2. Headphone setup (main system) - Sonore microRendu - Luxman DA-06 - Luxman P700u.
2a. Onkyo DP-X1A ( wireless) - Luxman P700u

All Network connections are wired except the item of 2a.

3. Control points are Bubbleupnp, mconnect, Yamaha MusicCast server being controlled by Android smartphone/tablet.
4. Router Totolink A2004NS - Netgear GS 208 - headphone setup/Yamaha MusicCast devices (partially connected through Netgear - 2 pcs, partially directly from the router - 1 set).

According to my little experience from the technical point of view of the issue, there are two weak points - the router (that's why it is being substituted for another one - Ubinquiti AmpliFi HD) and the behaviour of my laptop after the resetting of Windows 10 to the intial settings. I am well-aware of the flaws of the router, but I am emphasizing once again that there were no similar problems with this very router before the resetting. The new router has come, maybe this problem will be solved...

Yes, the music files are stored on the laptop, the software is installed over there too. Frankly, at present I prefer audition of music streaming services, but nevertheless I would like to restore flawless past operation of Minimserver, since its sound and features are actually very tempted for me.

Thanks.

Sergey

The new router has resolved all the previous drawbacks. Minimserver is being impetuously determined by any control points. The sound reproduction also restored like before.

Thanks a lot to all for the assistance

Hi Sergey
As I understood, in bubbleupnp you see your yamaha units as renderers.
Can you select and play the music from bubbleupnp to yamaha without using yamaha app?
Thanks HaNu
