Transcoding and OPPO BDP-105 Playback - vinyljunkee - 08-02-2017 12:25

I am brand new to the forum so please excuse me if this has been asked somewhere else. I am using MinimServer on a QNAP NAS connected via wired ethernet to an OPPO BDP-105. I use the OPPO Media app on my iPad and iPhone, accessing MinimServer on the NAS for file access and playback (Flac files....high resolution and CD quality)

Firstly, for other OPPO users out there is this the best method that you have found for high resolution music playback?

Secondly, can I be assured that the OPPO is seeing the full Flac file for processing and playback, versus some sort of transcoding that the MinimServer application might be performing.

Sorry again if this is a dumb question but I am confused by what I am seeing on this forum and others about transcoding.

Thank you,

I have a BDP-105 and Synology NAS. I didn't need to configure the transcoding options to get full resolution FLAC streaming. The simple way to see this is try playing something and if you use a receiver that displays the audio resolution, you can see if everything is properly configured. Also check the audio output settings of the Oppo.

In the Media Control App, you should see a source listed for Minimserver. This will be whatever name you've chosen for your music collection. Use this source to get the browsing and other features provided by Minimserver.

If you need to change it, you can use Minimwatch to change the properties.
The stream.transcode property in my case (probably the default) is set to *:L16 which I understand just instructs conversion of streams of an unspecified type to 16 bit LPCM (for which you also need a convertor).

You will only get transcoding if you have installed the optional MinimStreamer component and specified transcoding in the stream.transcode property. In all other cases, MinimServer will stream the exact contents of the audio file to the renderer.

Thank you for your reply. Are you seeing artwork in the Oppo Media Control interface? I am not until I actually play a track. However, I know that MinimServer "serves" it up. I am very consistent with having a folder.jpg or cover.jpg of the album artwork in the same folde with the audio files for that album.

Thank you very much for making that crystal clear. I am really happy that this is the design. Mike
