Minimwatch installation on Windows 10 - alebena - 07-08-2016 22:17

Dear Sir

I've spent all weekend without any success trying to get MinimWatch to work. I had Minimwatch working on my old Windows 7 machine for several years now. I transitioned my computer have everything else working. Minimserver is installed on a Synology NAS 1512+.

Yes I installed Java, yes I minimserver is running, yes I have installed minimwatch, removed it and reinstalled it several times.

Herein is the log info:

MinimWatch 0.8.4 update 40, Copyright © 2012-2016 Simon Nash. All rights reserved.
Java™ SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_101-b13)
Java HotSpot™ Client VM (build 25.101-b13, mixed mode)
Platform default charset is windows-1252
Active subnet is 192.168.2.0
Startup complete

Please let me know what to do?????

Adrian

When you say MinimWatch is not working, do you mean it is not discovering MinimServer? If so, please refer to the section MinimWatch can't find MinimServer on the Troubleshooting page for information on how to solve this problem.

What is the IP address of your NAS?

Finally got minimwatch to show up. I had to turn off Windows 10 Firewall Public. This feels kind of awkward. Is there a way I can have Minimwatch work and still have the Windows 10 firewall "Public" setting ON? I have the firewall setting for "private networks" on.

So I am half way there. Let me know.

By the way here at Sonore we have been using your software over the last three years and it sounds great. In my opinion it sounds better than Roon. Just my opinion!

Odd - unless you are getting MinimSever to transcode, being a UPnP media server, I would not expect MinimServer to have anything to do with producing a sound as such. Playback and decoding of the music file received from MinimServer over the network happens entirely in the Sonore device as the network audio file player (aka UPnP renderer). So it's the Sonore device that's making the sound, not MinimServer!

Note this is different to the Roon system, where the Roon server actually decodes & plays the music file, with the resulting actual realtime digital audio signal being sent over the network to the Sonore as the Roon Endpoint.

Any comments on the firewall issue???? Well all I can say is that Diskstation that comes with Synology doesn't sound as good as Minimserver. JRiver in DLNA mode doesn't sound as good either. Our assessment on multiple platforms not just the NAS.

This can be caused by having your home network incorrectly listed as a public network in Windows 10. The solution is to go into the Windows network settings and change the network type to private.
