Sorting in folders - jes - 08-05-2014 06:59 By default, folder items are sorted first by album name, then by track number. Can I change this to artist, track number using the option folder.sortTags={Artist, ???}? I tried track, number, tracknumber, all rejected. To do this, you can use folder.sortTags={Artist, Tracknumber} and put Tracknumber in itemTags. RE: Sorting in folders - jes - 09-05-2014 01:47 That works, thank you. Another question about the new Artist.reverseName.display option. Currently, all my artist tags are first name last name, e.g. John Smith. With the new reverse option, I am thinking about renaming all artist tags to last name, first name, e.g. Smith, John. I tested it and it works well. Would you recommend to arrange something like The Church as Church, The? However, with two and more artists, I am not sure how to best handle it. For example, John Smith & Mel Jones. How do I arrange it to display properly? Smith, John & Jones, Mel? Smith, John / Jones, Mel? Obviously a comma to separate artists is out. I tested a few options, but I have not found a good solution yet. Something like this may also pose a problem: John Smith (feat. Mel Jones). I guess this would work: Smith (feat. Mel Jones), John. But does it look good? More generally, how does Minimserver handle multiple artists (ID3v2.3 and ID3v1)? Renaming would obviously be a major time effort, and I want to make sure I implement best practice before I start. An unrelated question re albums. They are not important to me and I was wondering whether there is a way to not display them in the home container at all. Or at least move them down the order from the first position. Possible? It would be better to use the ignore={The} option for this. Quote:However, with two and more artists, I am not sure how to best handle it. For example, John Smith & Mel Jones. In general, I would recommend using multiple Artist tags to tag each artist separately, as in: ARTIST=John Smith ARTIST=Mel Jones or ARTIST=Smith, John ARTIST=Jones, Mel This use of multiple Artist tags works with all tagging standards supported by MinimServer (ID3v2, FLAC/Vorbis, MP4/iTunes). MinimServer doesn't support ID3v1 tags. You can use the tagFormat option to control how these names are combined for indexing, sorting and display purposes. In some cases, the band name might be a combination of two artist names (e.g., Simon and Garfunkel), in which case a single Artist tag should be used. In this case, you can use the tagValue option to provide custom values for sorting, indexing or display. Quote:An unrelated question re albums. You should be able to remove the <n> albums line from the home container by adding the setting Album:nil to the aliasTags property. RE: Sorting in folders - jes - 09-05-2014 11:12 Whilst Album:nil works, it strips out the album tag everywhere, not only on the home container, so not really ideal. I would only to suppress the display on the home screen, not the tag info itself. I never worked with multiple artist tags. My favourite program is ID3-TagIT. I am not sure how to add a second artist. Do I use "/"? I can also use Mp3tag. Any guidance is appreciated. In Mp3tag, you can write multiple tag values by using \\ as the separator. I don't know whether or how this can be done with ID3-TagIT. RE: Sorting in folders - jes - 11-05-2014 06:19 Better leave the album tag active then. Out of curiosity: I would be interested to better understand the importance of album names in classical music and why they seem to have first priority ahead of any other tags? I would have thought that artists and titles are more important tags, independent of music type. I added a second artist with Mp3tag, which is shown as "Smith, John\\Jones, Mel". However, Minimserver only shows the first artist, seemingly ignoring the second. Any tips how the second artist can be indexed? The first section of the menu has three menu items (<n> albums, <n> items and <n> playlists) that show the complete contents of your current selection as "flat" lists with no further selection choices. The <n> values provide an indication of the size of your current selection. The next menu section contains index entries (Artist, Genre, etc.) that lead to further selection choices. I am considering ways to make the display of these different menu sections more customizable. Quote:I added a second artist with Mp3tag, which is shown as "Smith, John\\Jones, Mel". If so, this tag value will be used in the Artist index instead of the Artist tag values. For an album that doesn't have an AlbumArtist tag, the Artist index entry is a combination of all the Artist tag values. The All Artists index shows a separate entry for each Artist tag, so the songs in this album should be indexed under both John Smith and Mel Jones in the All Artists list. Are you seeing this? RE: Sorting in folders - jes - 11-05-2014 14:57 Being able to customise the menus would be useful. I do not use AlbumArtist tags, only Artist tags. I do not see a combination of the two tags, only the first tag is displayed, with the second being ignored. Have you checked in the All Artists index to see if the second artist is there? To see the All Artists index, you need to add All Artists to the indexTags property if it isn't already there. If you don't see the second artist in All Artists, another possibility is that MinimServer is using tag data from its previous scan of your files before you made the tag changes. Have you done a Rescan from the minim icon since you made these tag changes? |
