RE: Best iPad App for MinimlServer - Donuk - 15-03-2024 20:08 DavidHB, I wish to gently take issue with you, in the nicest possible way (we are old forum correspondents over many years). I find the Minimserver configurations do show up in Lumin - at least all the ones I want. You can get the streamer to transcode and Lumin will present it as the streamer sees the file, ie. it may show up as a 192 24b file when in reality it is stored on the disk as 44.1 16b &c...... Also the Lumin menus reflect what is happening in Minim - new additions for example. Not there in Twonky. Also I like to be able to see a song's composer - this is obviously configurable in Minim, and indeed composers show up against each track - in square brackets as instructed in all appropriate places on the Lumin screen. For me whatever configuration I want in Minim shows up in the Lumin presentation. Put another way, are the any Minim configurations which are not accessible in Lumin that you are aware of? Cheers Donuk RE: Best iPad App for MinimlServer - Peter@57m - 16-03-2024 08:32 I have used LUMIN from when it first appeared many years ago. I use it on both apple and android tablets and like that it’s available on both and that it works on old devices. Many other control points need you to be running recent versions of operating systems. I like the compact interface of LUMIN where I see what’s playing including artwork, the queue, the volume, the progress through the track and my available albums all on one screen. I like it but understand others see it as too “dense”. This is probably the marmite factor. Often I use just the Lumin preset indexes but also frequently go into my Minimserver preset indexes just one click away. I don’t find updating of the local index an issue, it happens in the background and I can keep using the app during this. I guess if you add music very often it may become an issue but you could say this is also true of Minimserver. I think I tried bubble but it was some time ago and it didn’t really make any impression and I would tend to have discounted it as it is not available on both apple and android. I also use the Linn app which is available on both apple and android, in fact it seems for me to be more stable on android. It’s come on a lot in the last year. So I am very happy using a mix of Lumin and Linn. I have tried Roon but really could not get on with it, can’t really say what it was specifically and yet others love it. It was both on a Roon device and another trial on my QNAP. This may not be a big deal on the LAN, but if you're able to access it remotely like you are with BubbleUPnP then it could be a much bigger problem. If you view the log from MinimWatch and switch it to Trace you'll see everything it does (or at least a rolling window of it). Code: Loops through album indexApart from that I think it enables all of MinimServer's functionality, apart from maybe for Booklets, but not many people use that. I get a few errors for some index values but that's it. It doesn't scan the library again. I only get a scan if I add new content. Minimserver is running on a Melco RE: Best iPad App for MinimlServer - simbun - 16-03-2024 19:02 (16-03-2024 18:05)Peter@57m Wrote: I just tried that opening Lumin on my Samsung Galaxy S8 tablet whilst watching the trace log on a PC.I cleared the cache, the data and then uninstalled the app. I then installed Lumin from the Play Store but it has exactly the same behaviour. I even tried it on an old Samung tablet - thinking it might be a bug in the phone app - but same thing. I can close the app and open it straight back up and it's indexing again. It's like the cache is being cleared on every app close - except it isn't because it doesn't show the load progress, just a spinning wheel. Given that you've got 'MinimServer Rescan', 'Reload Music Library' and 'Update Music Library' settings in the app I wasn't expecting it reload every time, but I've assumed it was "normal". There are lots of negative reviews on the Play Store but I can't see any that mention this issue so I'm stumped. I've tried a Pixel 7 and Samsung A2 against MinimServer on a Pi. RE: Best iPad App for MinimlServer - Peter@57m - 16-03-2024 21:23 So I tried connecting to Minimserver on the Melco using Lumin on my Google Pixel phone. I hadn't used this for some time so the first time I did it it did do a full scan. Second time it only produced about a page of messages in the Trace log file so no full scan. I tried repeating this with Minimserver running on my QNAP. It seems to do a full scan every time as you describe. Now need to see if I can find a difference between the settings or the environment for the two Minimserver instances as the Lumins were the same on both the Samsung S8 and the Pixel phone RE: Best iPad App for MinimlServer - Peter@57m - 16-03-2024 21:57 OK so set the properties to the same on the Melco and the QNAP and now get no rescan on either. The change on the QNAP was to remove a tagUpdate setting. It was one that used a script to create a file to tag the albums into date ranges. The script was posted up on this forum and I started using it just before Simon added the Recently Added and Recently Played functionality. So somehow this seem to be upsetting Lumin - I had assumed this would only do the update during a Rescan of Minimserver. Anyway I now have both instances not doing Lumin rescans. RE: Best iPad App for MinimlServer - simbun - 16-03-2024 22:17 Lumin didn't re-index my Windows install which has the same tagUpdate script as is on Linux. I then removed the tagUpdate script from my Linux install and no further indexing! This might be one for @simoncn to look at. RE: Best iPad App for MinimlServer - Donuk - 17-03-2024 10:56 Just to add to the body of knowledge on this issue - and my own knowledge is very limited -, this is how I work with Lumin and it seems to work fine. Firstly, I have a ".sh" file - Mac equivalent of a ".bat" - on my Mac PC desktop - which contains the following lines rsync -avh --progress /Volumes/Don6Tb/MAIN/ /Volumes/share/MAIN 2> ~/Desktop/rsyncErrorsMELCO.txt echo "rescan" | /Applications/MinimWatch.app/Contents/mscript -a 192.168.0.7:9790 This provides an incremental way to move stuff from my external hard drive - to where I rip or download flac files - to my Melco N1/A. When it has loaded the new files to the Melco, the rescan line causes just that - Minim on the Melco to be aware of the new files. When I reopen Lumin on my iPad, I ask it to recreate the database - I find that easier than simply updating. Lumin does not interrupt at any other time doing rescans - at least as far as I am aware. Perhaps not the most brilliant way to marshal ones music, but for me it works fine. Donuk PS I had to remove all rounded brackets from the above before the site software would allow me to post. See Simon's mail in "administration" RE: Best iPad App for MinimlServer - simoncn - 17-03-2024 18:54 (16-03-2024 22:17)simbun Wrote: Lumin didn't re-index my Windows install which has the same tagUpdate script as is on Linux. I am not a LUMIN user and I don't know why using tagUpdate would make a difference to LUMIN reindexing. This should be a question for the LUMIN developers as only they know its inner workings. |
