RE: Best iPad App for MinimlServer - bbill - 31-01-2024 05:46 this is also an old problem in the beginning I had a Lumin A1 and Minimiserver, it was a perfect and simple solution (DSM + MinimServer) since then I had a classic UPnP player (DSM + Minim + Bubble) in the meantime Bubble no longer works via DSM.7 from Synology (or not easily via DSM + Minim + Docker + Bubble + Eunhasu..) in short, to return to MinimServer, I would like a simple solution: Lumin app on iPad and MinimServer on Synology... and nothing more (2 suppliers and no more) Finally, I understand that it is technically not possible or too expensive for MinimServer (and this seems toi be the answer to my question) RE: Best iPad App for MinimlServer - Peter StreamMagic - 31-01-2024 12:55 Ok, see your point. Software can be very frustrating sometimes. Perhaps the simplest approach is to use a DNLA app and skip the OpenHome path. 8Player, mConnect or Fidata (both DNLA and OpenHome) might do the job. RE: Best iPad App for MinimlServer - bbill - 01-02-2024 11:16 yes but it's a little sad to limit yourself to MConnect ! and in this case, the Synology “multimedia server” is also sufficient RE: Best iPad App for MinimlServer - simbun - 01-02-2024 17:38 It's not ideal but for ~£60 you could run BubbleUPnP Server on a small board computer like the Raspberry Pi. RE: Best iPad App for MinimlServer - stefano_mbp - 01-02-2024 17:50 It doesn’t seem to be so difficult to define a docker on a Synology to run Bubbleupnpserver following this guide RE: Best iPad App for MinimlServer - bbill - 02-02-2024 09:52 This is for the old Docker Do you have the procédure for the new DSM Container Manager ? RE: Best iPad App for MinimlServer - stefano_mbp - 02-02-2024 10:00 Unfortunately I don’t own a Synology nas but I thought the DSM7 was the last update for Synology RE: Best iPad App for MinimlServer - rich28 - 06-02-2024 09:56 (01-02-2024 17:38)simbun Wrote: It's not ideal but for ~£60 you could run BubbleUPnP Server on a small board computer like the Raspberry Pi. IMO what you’ve suggested is the best way forward. A Raspberry 2b, which can be picked for c.£15, will happily run BubbleUPnP Server. RE: Best iPad App for MinimlServer - Donuk - 11-03-2024 19:32 Whenever we get a thread like this I always register my preference for Lumin on my iPad. It is a Marmite app, I grant you, but I live the way it works, particularly the ability to change image sizes so easily. It can be temperamental; whenever I pick up my iPad, I swipe Lumin to close it and then open it to find the network. What I also like is the fact that it stores all the disk data - images and metadata of files on the iPad. Now this can be a paint if you add to your disk collection every day. But it does mean that traffic is reduced on your network - which might - some say lead to reduced noise. Similarly storing all my record collection data on my iPhone means that I have a full catalogue of my disk collection when I go shopping.... Just my view...... Although I like Marmite, I have never liked Lumin. ![]() (11-03-2024 19:32)Donuk Wrote: What I also like is the fact that it stores all the disk data - images and metadata of files on the iPad. This is one of the main reasons I don't use Lumin. Essentially, it wants to duplicate, in its own way, the work already done in MinimServer. You can get to your carefully crafted MinimServer browsing structure in Lumin, by selecting what it calls 'folder view' (not the same as folder view in MinimServer), but this is really working against what the app wants to do natively. The point is that if, like Donuk, you are comfortable with the way Lumin works, that's fine; if not, use another app. It is of course arguable that, if you like Lumin, you can use a pretty basic, non user configurable server, like those installed by default on some NASs. MinimServer, however, allows you (in the paid for version) to configure your browsing structure in the way you want, and that structure will stay the same, whatever control point app is in use. This, of course, precisely what the designers of the Lumin app don't want to happen. As I am not a user of Apple devices, I cannot claim to know in detail the full range of control point apps available of iOS. The Linn app seems to be as good as any, but, being OpenHome- rather than UpnP AV-based, it requires the use of Bubble UPnP Server as middleware for players that use the standard UPnP AV protocol. And, naturally enough, the app is designed for the Linn ecosystem, which may prove to be an irritation with players from other manufacturers. Sadly, the control app that, in my experience, works both most logically and reliably - Bubble - is only available for Android. Bubble comes in two flavours: Bubble UPnP for players using the standard protocol and BubbleDS for OpenHome players (such as Linn DS/DSMs). The two apps work similarly and both are closely compatible with MinimServer. One option for iOS users is to buy a cheap (e.g. second hand) Android tablet, install Bubble on it and use it as a dedicated music system controller. David |
