Attached are screenshots of the composer Sarasate. In Windows Explorer - look for the albums "Zigeunerweisen" - once in the subfolder and five times as a single track file.
In HifiCast under Android Player, however, Minimserver only maps 2 versions.

Thanks very much for posting this information.

I have done some more investigation to see why my last suggestion didn't work. This is because MinimServer is putting all items in the same folder with the same Group tag into a single group, just as it is putting all items in the same folder with the same Album tag into a single album.

There is one more thing you could try:

1) Remove Album:Group from aliasTags
2) Remove Group:Work from indexTags
3) Set the tagValue property to this: Work.default={Album}, Group.default={Album}
4) Add Work to indexTags
5) Restart MinimServer

If you select the Work index, does this produce what you expect for single-movement works and multi-movement works?

I am really grateful for your help but unfortunately the result is the same. Only 2 albums "Zigeunerweisen" are displayed.
Your programme is so fast and variable that it is a real pity not to be able to use it for a classical music collection sorted by composer and album when the album corresponds to the composer's work title.

RE: Not all Albums shown. Tagged classical music - simoncn - 11-07-2021 11:55

Did you select Work after Composer or did you select Album?

RE: Not all Albums shown. Tagged classical music - AmBaKlaRo - 11-07-2021 14:27

I have tried both. Unfortunately, the result is the same. COMPOSER - WORK or COMPOSER - ALBUM or directly ALBUM or WORK in the main navigation. With the current settings, only 2 albums or works "Zigeunerweisen" are displayed.

I have set up a small test library to check what is happening. I see why my last suggestion didn't work and I am sorry to say that I don't have any other suggestions that would work with your tagging.

The problem is that you want tracks in the same folder with the same Album tag to be combined for browsing purposes in the multi-movement case but not in the single-movement case. MinimServer is not able to distinguish these cases and cannot combine one without also combining the other.

if I may say …
the "original sin" was to use the Album tag to identify the Work.
The correct tag to use is Work, or Group but with a few more constraints.
I understand the resistance to changing the method used up to now but it would allow to achieve the purpose by getting the maximum possible from the Minimserver functionalities.

I disagree stefano_mbp. I would not call using the Album tag as Work the "original sin". It all depends on how this is done. As posted elsewhere here before I've been using a strict definition of Album' as 'Work' as follows: "[Composer] - [Work][Qualifier(optional)]" for example: "Haydn - Symphony No.54"

This approach requires a lot of editing of meta data to extract and rename contents of a classical album but I've found this very worthwhile: quick searches and easy access to listing alternative versions of a work.

RE: Not all Albums shown. Tagged classical music - simoncn - 12-07-2021 16:39

Using Album as Work is OK as long as you don't have more than one Album/Work with the same name in the same folder.

RE: Not all Albums shown. Tagged classical music - stefano_mbp - 12-07-2021 16:49

You are absolutely free to think different but my point of view is another …
Work is the Opus name/number from the official catalog (for example: Köchel catalog for Mozart, Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis for Bach, ecc…)
Album is title of the album as you buy it
then there are
Composer
Artist where all the artists/performers can be found
Conductor
Orchestra
Soloist
Instrument
Genres
Historic/Musical era (of the composer
Recording date
Published date
… and others
