I didn't wanted to question your current approach,
but I just thought an option to prevent folder merging at al
might not be very difficult to implement and on the other hand
be welcomed by some users.

I appreciate the suggestion. My response was in reply to your comment that many or most users would put a complete multi-disc album in a single folder.
The code that does this is very complex. Also, the current merging rules are complex. I'm reluctant to increase this complexity by adding more options unless the current behaviour is causing significant problems for users.
