I also use Volumio on RPI as a Renderer with Minimserver as the UPnP music server.
The Volumio search does NOT work for me either.
Although I like the Volumio system as a renderer, I have all but given up on its web interface..
I suggest using a third party UPNP controller like Linn Kazoo on either iOS or Android, which works much better all round, including search.

You are right. This is a workaround which I tested as well. I am using the RPI with a DAC attached as a renderer , minimserver on a NAS as a server and a control APP in my iPAD (8player light). I am currently playing around looking for different control APPs. But it is a pity that the search function in volumio does not work. I would be a much easier setup.

Our setups are the same.. I agree, its a shame that Volumio's search and playlists do not work well.
